Default my car went swimming!

ok didn't get any photos on my comp till today so it's a tad late but still...

last sunday i went out to breaky down at city beach (if anyone knows the big car park there) and parked, unknown to me there was bad weather forecast for the day.

go to breaky for about 2 hours and it started pouring down with rain and windy and it was pretty much raining sideways, literally.

came out ready to run to my car in a dry patch and find my car like in the below photo. i had a bung ankle from a drunk accident the night before and couldn't get to the car unless i wanted my strapping to be left soaking. the water was an inch or two from the bottom of the doors, intercooler was covered in water.

it's funny now i think about it and out of it i got two foglights full of water (which are probably stuffed now), alot of grime under the front, and i'm a tad worried about the thermo fans, will need to test them and the inside of my car smells which i'm scared is moisture but it oculd be a few things i did that day in it.

moral of the story, don't park down in a low spot in winter.

I would get it in for a service ASAP , wheel bearings ect are sealed but can get water in if submerged.
Fans should be OK just run the car and turn the a/c on to dry the motors.

only problem for me is this is my new car. it is funny my main concern is getting the salt out of everywhere so it doesn't rust away and making sure it is all running fine. i'm hoping the 3 or 4 days rain we had before it washed away any salt left on the ground and i'm hoping there wasn't too much sand in the water.

Sad to see, but I think saying it went swimming is a bit far fetched.
Get your front wheel bearings checked out, but at that depth I really don't think there's too much to worry about.

its a nice looking ute there mate......i think that sort of water once of wouldnt do that much damage....living in the tropics 24/7 would do more harm

next time if the car park is empty its for a reason....all its needed was better drainage

anyways hope all is good

Sunday was shocking. I was driving south on wanneroo rd around 11:30 after picking up my flash tuner. Everyone was driving at around 15kmh and the rd was all flooded. Plus my back tyres where bald. very dodgy

We had a driver at work who thought it would be funny to drive a stretch limo through a flooded street like that.

He stopped laughing when we asked him to pay for the tow truck to get him out.

All that's required in that photo are two yellow flaps and a sign saying "Swim between the flaps" and it would have been an absolute pearler.

Mate, hope it is all ok and you don't have any issues with it in time to come.

That's one reason why our car got the rust treatment well worth the 800 big ones when that sort of thing can happen. Hope the car is ok

Oooh never start a car after that without checking! My old work used to buy cars that had flood damage and well they bought one but it was started up with a gut full of water and destroyed 3 out of the 4 pistons and snapped the crankshaft among other things...

Man you should get your *** down to ARB and get some of this stuff that neutralises salt, I cant remember what its called but its what people use after they have a big beach run or something, you wash the underside (and topside) of you car with it. It was on one of 4wd monthly's dvds. But describe your situation and they will know what your talking about.

true, the only way to protect steel from rust is to properly prepare and paint it, which a car already is
