Default MK11 Cortina

Hey guys, I have a 1970 MK11 Cortina and I am wanting to put a 302c or w in it and even a 351 if it would fit without playing with shocky towers. I know the Radiator needs to be moved forward. But just wondering if anyone has done this conversion and could give me any ideas on what needs to be done. or any other suggestions people might want to throw out.

Cheers

There were a few mark 11's with big blocks in them years ago doing the rounds in the magazines......Full streeters........Check with the RTA as I don't think you can put a V8 into an early cortina/escort anymore. It depends on each state though......

Hi, PTMK11

First off, welcome to the forums.

As for the V8 in a mk2, i have seen it done before with all types of 8's like Clevo's and Windsor’s, Obviously a 302 Windsor is going to be easier to squeeze in.
The ones that I’ve seen done have had the firewall cut and moved to allow for some more room at the front of the motor, i would guess that there is some work involved in fitting a 8 in.

However correct me if I’m wrong but i think that the MK2 Cortina’s have the same engine bay as a MK2 Escort and a Capri, if this is the case all you should need are some mounts and a sump and pick up to make it fit, it will be tight though =)

Also as Doug Said if you want the car to be street registered check with the RTA in your state, last time i checked the RTA in BNSW was stopping V8's well anything over 4.0LTR displacement into Escorts and Capri's and i think the MK2 is in the same weight range, having said that a Toyota 4.0 V8 in a MK2 would be nice!!!

Hope this Helps,
Cheers

Thanks 75 Cortina,

Will check the RTA im in QLD and pretty we have worst laws against engine conversions and that so that could suck!

So you reackon maybe a 1UZ-FE? out of the soarer's arent they?

Im not too worried on doing a bit of work to fit it in but i want it street registered so will have to check the RTA.

Thanks anyways mate

Escorts and Capris don't have the same engine bays, infact there's more space in a Mk2 Cortina engine bay than a Falcon it's just the guards are a lot wider on a Falcon which makes them seem bigger.

1UZ-FE that was teh engine i was taking about, Yep there out of the soarer's, the bottom end in them is strong as!

'Escorts and Capris don't have the same engine bays' fair enough, its just the way that there finished looks very similar,

Anyway good luck with the conversion,

Cheers

a straight 6 is going to be tuff to get registered as it will need firewall mods

a v6 is prob gunna be a good option if want to go the 6 cylinder way

there is a new thread started with a v8 in a mk2 HERE

if you havent already seen it

1uzfe is a 4.0L V8.
you might of been thinking of the 1jzgte which is the 6cyl.

in saying that.. theyre a 700mm cube almost.. so depending on the width of the engine bay is whether or not a 1uzfe will fit.

Should be able to get it in, i've seen big blocks in MK2's!

I've also seen a V6 out of a Capri in one that seemed to fit pretty easily.

Let us know what direction your going to take, might have to start a build thread?
