Unhappy good news...NOT!!!

I take my car to a mechanic (mate) to take a quick look at the noice problem (he was going to service it over the long weekend anyway...but as I needed the car for tonight, i wanted to be safe).
Only problem he found was:

Head has completely gone, some lifters and springs have SNAPPED!
Its compresion test didnt pass all that good (piston #3 had near NONE!)
The cam shaft has grinded itself away and was about to go
Piston #4 and #5 had no rings and were wigling around the whole block
The piston rods on those were also gone

He didnt take a look at the crank, but he said that it may be gone aswell
and ontop of that,
The block might not be any good as pistons 4 and 5 were rubbing against the side of it and bored it in a way (in a bad way).

So im on the hunt for a new motor,
Anyone got one??

nice...

Im kinda in the same position..my engine is dying, still goes ok but still blows smoke on start up.

I thought about the AU route, but even then its still a 2nd hand engine. I think I might get a reco and get the parts I want and then Ill know whats going on.

Might even try doing it myself.

mmm,
I might have no choice but to go the AU route...can get an AU XR6 165kw motor with 160,000km (i think) for around $1100...plus fitting it..
Problem is...dont have the $$$ at the moment:(

Crikey... sounds like it was in a bad way - was it still running? Blowing heaps of smoke?

If you don;t have the cash, I say just drive it until it tears itself open. If you keep the oil up to it and don't mind noise etc, you might get a few months use out of it, which would get you past xmas etc, and give you a chance to put some money away.

It's not like you're going to hurt it any more than it has been already.

The mechanic told me he was really surpriced that it even drove to him! (heathmont to bayswater...maybe 7km?)
He urged me not to drive it anymore as it is about to stop any minute!
I think im luky i got home...reason I went to him as the noice got louder and louder...and started happening not at just ideling, but at around 2,200RPM!

Ouch, was the poor thing starved of oil or something?? That's catastrophic engine failure.

2 pistons have no rings
multiple stuffed lifters and springs (read cyl won't be working)
1 cyl has no compressin (likely one of those with stuffed springs or similar.
bent rods
grinded down cam

and a potentially stuffed crank.
sounds to me like internals collided.
