Default AUII Fairmont Head Unit

Ok I've searched the forums using the search function but I'm not getting much luck... Apologies if this is common (I hope it is)

I attempted to put a CD into my head unit the other day (6 in dash one) and after it accepted the disc it then made a high pitched whining noise. It then switched to the radio.

Now it constantly switches between the radio, then the CD player but because the CD player no longer works it switches back to radio. This cycle continues unless I hold down load and then it beeps and it will stay on the radio.

This is real annoying as you can imagine, any advice???

Cheers

its fried, pull it out, get your CD's back and go buy a new one, easiest way to fix the problem

Hmm, I'd rather not buy another of the same if it is just gonna screw up for no apparent reason again. Are after markets an option for the AU? I've seen one custom head unit that stuck out and looked terrible with the AUs curves and left and big gap beneath. Pretty annoying...
How much is a replacement from Ford?
Thanks for the replies guys.

Oh and I always use my CD player, I don't think I could just live without it like you TUNGA

you can get a lower pocket from ford for about $25 and then get any single din head unit

or go and buy a double din item like i just did

note it is tilted out from the bottom as a part of how the unit works

and it has no surround attached as they need to be modified to fit the AU dash

Ok I might do the lower pocket thing. Also is there a way to keep the steering wheel controls working with a different HU?

I have a feeling this questions are answered already somewhere, so feel free to point me somewhere rather than answering my individual questions..

Thanks guys

yeah ours did it, not hard to get the unit out and get the discs out(top cover unscrews then unclips from the unit) but dont expect the discs to be any good when you get it out

one of the discs that was in ours was in 7 pieces

you can get some head units that are compatible with the steering wheel buttons..
or have an adaptor that makes them work again
