Default Stupid scissor jack... (the ED has damage)

Well, thanks to the stupid factory scissor jack, i almost lost an arm. That doesn't concern me too much, it's my poor ED i'm ****ed off about.
I jacked up the front right to remove a wheel, and as soon as i could, i began placing the axle-stand underneath the car, as i know the scissor jacks are said to be unreliable. Well, whilst sliding the stand underneath the car, the scissor jack colapsed and because of that i now have a floorpan that sits about 3-4" higher in one spot. Inside the cabin, there's a huge bump right under where my right knee usually sits... I'll post pics as soon as i can.

What i want to know is, is this as major as i think it might be? I know a mates VR SS was written off due to a similar thing. The floorpan has lifted away from the chassis by about 5mm. I am so ****ed off right now word cannot explain. Can it be fixed?

:

Jared

EDIT: here are the pics...

Jeez mate that's terrible. I'd have a word to a panel beater ASAP to see if they can repair it.

Shit that really sucks man. I hate those scissor jacks so damn much. I agree with Trouty, get it to a panelbeater as soon as you can.

i dont see a prob in repairing it,

what they will prob do is strip the entire interior out of the car (excluding dash) heat up the damaged area, bang it down and either re-spot weld or mig it to the chassis rail, the most expensive thing would be the labour for stripping the interior out of it

I use a supercheap trolley jack in preference to any scissor jack. Though after this incident I'm sure you'll splash out on a top quality trolley jack. :P

Yeah i have never been a fan of the scissor jacks but my T3's ride height won't allow a trolley jack underneath the car. I am trying to source an air jack similar to want is used by some service departments and Racq ?????????????

I have a supercheap trolley jack around somewhere, but mine won't fit under the car either (used to drive up on a block of wood first, but figured thats more dangerous than a scissor - I was wrong), and it's too low for a chassis supporting hoist, it only fits on a wheel supporting hoist (found that out yesterday) : I am definately going to look around for a quality trolley jack that's low enough.
I'll take it to the panelbeaters asap (minus interior), but thought i'd post up this thread to stop anyone from using a scissor jack unless they absolutely have no choice...

Cheers guys,
Jared

Didn't Supercheap auto recall theyre jacks because of what 4.0i_SiX said?
LOL thus why my friend took his back

Sorry to hear about that onered,
A friend of a friend feels the intense need to 4wd his EA about and did the same thing but right where the LH rear passenger footwell is, When we swapped his carpet over, i simply smacked it back down for him and fibreglassed up where a floor seal was, seems to be fine now (mind u he doesnt Give a F**k about his ea).

Get it checked out at a Panel beater asap as everyone said and see what there opinion is

ok look before you even do anything you have some options.
1: take it as is to the beaters and get a quote. stress the interior will be stripped when they get it for repairs.
2: beat the absolute f76k out of the floor so it is resonable and the weld it back up.
3: pay up your insurance and leave it as is. insurance fraud. run over big rocks and damage all of the underneath.
4. same as above but wait till you crash or someone crashes into you and claim that damage as part of the accident.

I had to use my scissor jack this week too when I was detailing the brakes ready for the new rims Dragged my not one year old trolley jack out of the shed and the bastard wouldn't lift the car up. Do you think I can find the receipt...

I too hate scissor jacks, the car is so unstable on them. (and yes, I had it on stands while I was working on it!)

ah thats gotta shit ya jared!!! it can be fixed but, they may need to weld in another panel there. they fix that kind of stuff on older cars all the time but thats mainly due to rust and large holes in the floor.....

Ive had enough close calls that i keep a hydraluic jack in the boot. Its difficult seing it doesnt fit under the car. Ive got to drive it onto a rock or plank to get the car high enough..

Im really scared now - I have worked under the car a couple of times with scissor jacks and never realised.... I am usually safe (have a couple of truck axel stands I use), but it would have only taken one to break and I wouldnt be typing this now.

tough luck though. Hope you get it fixed without too much trouble.

You worked under a car with only a scissor jack? Mate, you're lucky to be alive, those things snap if you look at them wrong.

Damn that sucks Jared!

Hope you can get it fixed without too much hassle.

Funny thing though, i'd just finished telling Rmyers about it today, and the same thing happened, only with his trolley jack. Lukily the chassis landed perfectly on the axle stand! It still put a little dent in the chassis rail and bent the axle stand though!

After that we found the biggest mofo log we could get and put that under there just in case ;)

Well i couldnt wait 6 months for ours, so i used the jack :P

I'm taking the crippled red thing down to the workshop 8:30 tomorrow morning. They say that i won't even need to remove the seat, just roll the carpet back and they'll get it back in place for nothin (i know the blokes). Should only take 'em a couple of hours they reckon. We'll see though i guess, here's hoping!

HAHA, i had to replace the rear shockers today. Mum came out and started hassling me and got me to put 2 huge logs from the wood heap under the car once i'd jacked it up... "just in case those metal axle stand thingies aren't strong enough" ROFL...
