Default using high petrol / and a service question

hey my car i just realied uses around 13.8 - 17.5 just random city/suburb driving is that high? coz it seems bloody high :(

its a fairmont so i can use the instand L/100km thingo, even when i drive it as soft as i can i still cant get it even close to under 13's, and im talking old granny style driving.

any ideas? it has had new lead and plugs around 4 months ago.. how ever it is over due for a service its almost reached 150k, what kinda service do i need besides oil/air ? i check my levels maybe 2 - 3 times a month depends if im going long drive or not and nothing seems to drop besides my coolant, new radiator too.. thats a diff subject.

any ideas why im using so much petrol?
what do i need for service?

i know a few are going to say use the search function but i couldnt find n e thing about the fuel, and i thought he id post both questions at once

cheers

How are your tyres?

I found I got around 1L/100km better consumption (was getting 17's) after 4 new ones and a wheel alignment.

Also make sure your pressures are good.

You can check out the thread i made on this a month or so ago, other people made some suggestions like O2 sensors.

after a good thursday night cruise im sitting about 17L per 100kms.

after highway driving im around 11 - 12L per 100..... all depends how you drive, best i've managed to get is 450k's per FULL tank.

on average I sit between 14.5 and 16.5 L city driving, its a pig in traffic but on the highway she's smooth as your mums shaven.... ankles

edit: after reading that i think i have issues :

interesting you say that, as I changed plugs and leads etc less than 3 months ago

i've always been annoyed with the way mine drinks fuel, only time i've even seen it get to an interesting number of k's was highway driving for half the tank, then city driving.

Back on topic, could an old fuel filter also contribute to bad economy? My one looks like someone hit it with a spray gun full of rust,on the outside at least

Thats about right. I know I dont have a AU but 90% city driving(fairly heavy foot) I get about 350-380km from 60litres = 16l/100km

As someone else mentioned, take what the trip computer says with a pinch of salt.
