Default raising the EB ;)

Although I am quite happy with my superlows (and don't really care about my stuffed shocks), a mate of mine has just bought an EB fitted with lows, and wants to swap.

I think I'll go up a notch to lows, but I'd like to hear some peoples' opinions on this. Below are my pros/cons regarding my current ride height.

Superlows FOR:

They look pretty damn good ;)
Handling is (was!) pretty good, a massive improvement over std ride height. Despite the shocks being stuffed now, cornering is still carefree with bugger all body roll.

Superlows AGAINST:

I've gotten stuck on one speed hump at uni (I even took it diagonally!)
The car is REALLY bumpy when I've got mates in the back (it was like this when the shocks were good too)
Insurance... kinda didn't get around to telling them!
Police... I haven't been pulled over but I haven't been looking forward to when I do get pulled over (for random RWC or breatho or whatever)
My cats have been knocked about quite a bit! There's some things on the road that they just can't clear.
And... bottoming out the undercarriage at a campsite... repeatedly... and having the grass & mud smouler on the gearbox & exhaust... yeah, that sucked.

So, should I get the lows?

Keep the super lows, I dont know how you have clearance probs with them unless you have a really low hanging exhaust.. I have King U/Lows in my EB and running a smaller diamater front tyre and still have bassically no clearance issues...

i wouldn't
i got s'lows and have had a few dramas...ive been beached before lol...got stuck on a mates driveway and they had to life the front to give me traction...
but its all good if ya pay attention
also i only ever cruise with myself or 1 person cos the cars to heavy with any more people and its not responsive enough
ive never been hassled for my ride height by the cops either

whats the point of having a car if you cant put people in the back of it or drive it around without fear of getting stuck?!

Go lows.

It looks fully sick!

I took my EB camping once. The road has grooves in it everywhere. It took about 45 minutes to cover 3 Km's :(

I should add that the superlows were from an I6... so they sit a bit lower at the front due to the extra weight of the V8.

I've got a custom exhaust, hence the cats getting bashed around a little. Twin 2.5" going into single 3" + muffler before the diff.

Oh, and the speed humps at uni are the type that are like one metre across and raise up about 15cm above the road. Can't take them diagonally! All other speed humps are fine though, just the ones at uni are problematic.

I generally don't worry about getting stuck, and I can park diagonally half-up on gutters (so the car is half off the road) without scrapage.

So so far there's two against & one for... (and I don't quite know where dansedgli stands! haha!) Even though I'm pretty much inclined to opt for the lows, I'm still interested in some other opinions too (say, other people who went from superlows to lows, whether they regretted it or thought it was a smart move, etc etc?)

Keep the superlows. Driving's just too boring without getting stuck on the occasional speed hump... :P

If you aren't draggin, you're too high! I only have lows, but I wanna go lower! Yeah, I bottom out, only reason I haven't gone lower is cause my missus can't drive and randomly removes underbody parts reversing out the drivway at warp speed!

Superlows all the way!!! I don't see why superlows cause that much headaches for people?? I had 75mm ground clearance at the front and a fairly low hanging 3 inch exhaust and i admit that i had my share of bottoming out experiences but even then wasn't that bad...

How about the people who went from Superlows to Lows. Any regrets?

I do a fair bit of driving up semi-bush tracks too, living out in the sticks. It sucks having a surprise hump appear in the middle of the road just after a bend & bottoming out at 80kph... (no, I'm not talking about wombats this time)

Don't get me wrong, the superlows are great. I'm just wondering whether the lows would be more practical, as in "worth it" practical for these little things mentioned.

Thanks for everyone's opinions so far.

Dave your so silly!

Lows will mean you'r only gunna clear a few more things and still hit the majority of the rest.

eewww @ lows
I recently thought about getting rid of the superlows and putting in ultralows. However the car occasionally scrapes the exhaust already, and i DO NOT want any marks on the bodykit. So im staying with the superlows.
The EL had lows in it when we first got it, they lasted just over a week before they were given away rofl. Looks sh|t, and corners even worse. (IMO)

Tough call. I eventually want to get rid of my lows for something with better ride comfort, but I doubt I'll be going much if any lower.

Damn you all (in a good way)! Now I'm completely unsure...

Tell you what, I'll check out my mate's car on the weekend --as I haven't seen it yet-- and see how his ride stance is (it's a black EB1 Fairmont, so virtually identical to mine...). If it looks too high for my liking, I won't do the swap.

He's not sure how old the springs are in his car, but that's not really a concern of mine. My old springs were 300,000km old!

I should talk him into turboing the 'mont! :the_finge

Santo - I'm not that concerned about them, but this offer has come up (he approached me), which got me thinking. And you should airbag your car mate ;) Get the best of both worlds!

Rob - Does the lane do dirt roads? :Reverend:

Tough call. I was contemplating Superlows off n on for ages, cozz the ride height looks awesome.
But I've stuck with lows and happy for it. No way do i wanna rip the guts out of my bodykit just for looks. I'd rather drive hassle free.
But yeah its your call mate in the end.

The lane doesn't touch dirt roads. Got anymore photos of your's? That's the stance I'd like, at least from the rear.

put in a lift kit dave.
3" lift kit + some large profile tyres would be sweet.

go for ultra lows. lol. Nah I agree with Karl, My EA has lows and it scrapes on heaps of , and obviously doesn't look as good as Super lows.

I'm gunna go ultra lows in my EB, Might even get me an angle grinder tommorrow since Heathcote is off.

Yep, looks so much more of a stocker with just lows. Supelows will go back in as soon as i have shocks to suit ;)

I took mine offroad with supelows, and it was fine. My muffler is rather stuffed from dragging on the ground excessively (on bitumen LOL), but if you are careful the SL's aren't too bad on the rough stuff if you go slow...
