Default escort steering racks MK1 and MK2 problems?!!??!?!?!!?

we have the volvo conversion brakes on my escort which is also on mk2 1600 struts and hubs. problem is is that the tie rod ends off the mk1 or too sloppy in the hole on the wheel hub. the mk2 ones fit perfct but wont screw into the rack ends. how have people gotten around this problem previously.

can the mk2 rack ends be put onto a mk1 rack?

you need to either use a MK2 steering rack, or get some 'Green' tie rod ends.

Something deep in my memory tells me Mk1 used imperial dimensions and Mk2 metric - would this be right?

Essentially they are exactly the same as a Mk 1 rack. Sounds like the easiest solution to your problem.

I'm doing the opposite. Fitting Capri struts in my Mk 2, so I'm swapping the Mk 2 rack for a Mk 1 rack. Green tie rod ends are usually the way around this problem, but if you need to replace them in a hurry, you can't just go into autobarn and buy a new set off the shelf. Stupid wheel alighnment guys tend to get a bit sloppy with the hammer every now and again and they insist on replacing tie rod ends. Swapping the rack keeps it simple and cheaper in the long run.

You can change the rack ends, but if your doing that you will need to keep doing that if you need to replace the rack at any stage
The easiest thing to do is to replace the Mk1 rack with a MK2 item

that way you have a stock standard item in there

Mk2 racks are a dim a dozen, i have thrown that many out its not funny, you can always upgrade to a quick rack - shop around $275 - $330

So the green tie rod end won't work when trying to marry MK2 struts to MK1 steering rack?? The item discription is a little confusing.

NO the 'green' tie rod ends will work when fitting capri or MK1 struts to a MK2 escort

I just had the steering arms on my GP4 struts machined to suit MK2 tie rods
