Default Ed Gearing?

Hi all

Would anyone know what gearing the std ED Futura ran? I know mine are way too high for my liking, making alot of the peak power usable at the end of second gear. It uses more fuel than my old EB XR6 did, and I put this down to the extra work the engine does to get it moving...Kind of like peddling in a high gear on a bike.

Also for anyone whos lowered your gearing on your E Series, Did you notice the car being quicker down low or better/worse economy? How does your car sit at freeway speeds and what gearing are you running?

Is it worth changing the ratio without LSD?

Appreciate any help

Currently I have 3.27 LSD gearing. 1800rpm at 100kph, and I can hit 110kph in 1st. Not good!

Very soon I'll have some 3.9s instead and will give an update on performance

Oh, and LSD is where the shiznit is at! Open wheelers are easier to live with though for everyday driving.

I have a 3.08 diff and I'm in 3rd at 110.

The EB II had 3.27 and the XR6 better again with 3.45. The ED went back to 3.08 in the interests of highway economy. This is where your performance weakness lies.

standard they would be to damn slow, thats my opinion anyway. and thats y im gettin 4.1's ! ! ! ! . did the math and should be at 2250rp at 100kph so ill get hell of alot better off the line and not loose to much off the top end. but yeah if ya changin gearing ya may as well chuck a lsd in while the diff's stript.

Thanks for the help.

Seems like its a decision between 3.7's or 3.9's

How much $ should it be to update the current unit? Is it easy to recalibrate the speedo?

Yep, 3.27 gears (not for long!), 5.0 auto.

5.0s don't mind revving, and although 6000 is silly, it's not as unhealthy as doing it in an I6 (due to the 8's smaller stroke). HO intake chokes the V8 anyhoo so it won't lean out on me.

6000rpm isn't a regular thing mind you! I'm not interested in blowing up my motor ;) those instances have been due to crazy wheelspin or mis-timed changes (my BA shifter used to be laggy in tiptronic mode before I fitted a moderate shift kit). Shifting at 5500rpm under WOT used to delay a gearchange until 6000rpm, which caught me out a couple of times.
