Thrustrace ?
When I changed my clutch I noticed that all the bolts on the extension housing were very loose, it caused a major rattle. |

thrustrace????? im thinking you mean thrust bearing? never heard that term for it though, but im not that knowledged, as far as ive heard e-series gearboxs have more problems with synchros then with thrust bearings. thrust bearings are only about 5bux but its a to take off the gearbox to change with out a hoist. so if your getting that changed then there going to charge at least a hundred bux just to take off the gearbox and put the new one in and refit the gearbox.

It happened to me Wicherts. A brand new thrust bearing will cost you anywhere from 40 to 90 bucks depending on where you get it from.
My uncle and I changed the one on my old manual EF cuz it was whining like buggery (and as dry as a nuns.. well, you get me. ![]() ![]() Not a hard job but thats what your problem is, so there ya go ;) |

$78.80 from ford and bursons costs more like $85.00 or something
i put a new one in on the weekend, as my old 5-speed had a bad thrust bearing noise i thought it was safe to change this one before i put the new box in. |

Hi guys,
Is this anything like the rattling noise I get in 3rd gear when the car is under a load when its cold? It seems to dissapear when its hot but the noise sounds like its coming from the gearstick and and is similar to the sound of a nut been shaken in a glass jar quickly. Any ideas? Mark. possibly... whatever it is, the oil thinning out when it warms up seems to be fixing it, right?

If that's the case, a fluid change would be a good start.
