Default GT-E Snapped Tail Shaft

I am the proud owner of a Silver 2009 FG GT-E

On the 22 Dec 13 whilst trying to power through an intersection i heard the metal noise from underneath the car and no drive. I had to have the car towed and on the Monday I received a call informing me that my tail shaft had snapped.

After a new tail shaft was installed I ask to have a look at the old item. The pictures are if the workshop post. Their seems to be an issue with the old part as it has corroded from the inside.

Has any one seen anything like this before?

Are their any detail on a item fault?

Been discussed a few times, don't think yours is the first.

Why post here and post the photos somewhere else?? I am not going searching for the photos. Costs nothing to post the photos here, or at least put a link to where the photos are.

From my vague memory water gets in and ruins the cardboard in them and creates corrosion then they break

Yep, that's exactly what happened to my old mans FG XR6. He got the destroyed shaft from ford and you could see the corrosion, plus it was a pretty thin shaft to start with.

The tailshafts have cardboard in them, why eludes me at the moment. It has been standard practice for years now.

Yeah the cardboard is to absorb vibrations...

Its a farcry from the carbon fibre wrapped alloy tailshaft that the EL GT got so long ago...
