Too bad on the defect. I assume the loss of licence is your own fault?

Been there and done that recently. I figure, enjoy the time i had with a highly modified vehicle and be thankful that the police 'played it by the books' and werent particularly unfair to me. Rules are rules and they even looked the other way on a couple of things.

It is a nasty feeling when you get pulled over tho... thinking "well, the game's finally up"...

Lost your licence "for good" ?? Sounds serious.

Lol - not to sound harsh but i'd pull your car over in a heartbeat. Must mean it looks awesome Which it does

That can be grounds of appeal in court. My brother got done for smoking on a train platform at 5am in the morning and got a $220 fine. One of the officers that booked him said to my brothers mate "I would have let him off with a warning". He appealed the fine in court and it was reduced to $50.

Damn! But really, i need to know... how'd you lose the licence? Surely it cant be related to a defective vehicle? Or was it a seperate occasion?

Either way, your car is pretty awesome! Damn the rules!

That does suck mate. And that fog light issue is BS..what if you where driving to a sparky to hook them up?

Ive got fairlane corering lights that are not hooked up but in my front bar, could I get done for that? If so i would hark up! Im usually a calm person but that is just stupid.

Very true... but it still is always a shame for someone who clearly loves a car getting done, and some box Datsun that is probably completely unroadworthy on a dangerous, rather than cosmetic level, gets by scott free...

I thought that they have to rev it to 50% operating speed, in which the I6 would be 2500rpm? That would be grounds for appeal.... or do you have the V8?

FOr the foggies, I woulda just claimed blown globes....

Seems like you got away with a few things... but if you gotta take it over the pits to proove you got them fixed, they may pick up some other stuff...

My mate got defected in his VN for too low... the car was fine, but the extractors bent down too far.... just a few mm below legal limit...

Sounds like they just picked up on the things you can get done over the weekend, (except lowered and zorst)...

Shame aboot your licence dude - just claim for a Workers Provissional...

C'mon man, driving is awesome, but life is far more awesome. Try to put it all into perspective, there are always ways to get around, people to help, other options to take.

Surely it can't be for good, people get off after a few years for killing someone with the car, man you were just driving to work....

What this really underlines is the fact that if we're going to modify cars away from the basic design that has been tested and approved, we need to play within the rules.

Before I embark upon any mods to my vehicles, I always make a call to the RTA technical line to find out where I stand legally, if it needs a certificate from an engineer, then that is what I do. If I'm told that the proposed modification is outside the rules, then I don't do it. It's simple.

While it can be frustrating to find that a certain scheme cannot be implemented, the fact is, I want my vehicle to be safe and I want my insurance to cover me if something ever goes badly wrong.

As an aside, I have never had any problems with the RTA guys, they are happy to let you modify within the current rules and are keen to see people doing it properly.

The vast array of poorly designed, built and unengineered major modifications on the roads scares me frankly. Sure you can strap astronomical power into a chassis designed for family hack use, the question is: should it be done without due consideration of the stresses involved? I have no idea what the doubling of output from my engine would do to my chassis, so if I planned to do it, I'd make sure I talked to somebody who did beforehand. Not Frank up the road either, who has stuffed a 454 in a mini and reckons 'it's grouse mate', but somebody who has trained to understand the stresses involved and can do the sums to prove safety or not.

Bottom line is, most rules regarding modification of vehicles are there for a sound reason, even the ones that on the surface look ludicrous. Not all, but most. It's up to us as modifiers to to keep our game up and play by the rules, or inevitably, public perception of modified cars will get even worse than it currently is. This will cause more and more media frenzy about our passion, and ultimately see us legislated out of existance.

I understand that I'm preaching to the mainly converted here, but the incidence of what would appear to be wing and a prayer engineering displayed, is a little too much at times.
