Is this AU1 ute a good buy?

G'day guy's, great forum.

I am looking to buy an AU1 ute which has done 184,000 km's. I'ts in really good nick body and interior wise, but I was wondering if the amount of km's would be an issue. The asking price was $15,000, which I should be able to get down a little.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

You should be able to get a better price than that. High Kay's. Have you tried Car Sales?

Although it does look very clean

Hope it helps, but from what I see here, I don't reckon 15K is a good price at all. I guess it's on gas, add $1000 or so more, but not $15,000.

It is a 99 AU1. It has Duel fuel, with intergrated fuel gauge, Air con, new aluminium tray, one owner (is that an option?) clean etc.

Probably worth more like $12000?

plus trading in the 91 XF ute.

That sounds much better, but some of the tradies on this forum might reckon that you could do better. See what they think I reckon.

1 Year ago I paid $15,200 for my AU3 (Futura) Ex Police Sedan at an Auction (and they didn't even know it was a n ex cop car at that time). I wouldn't pay $15,000 for a 99 model (unless it has an extra axle or sumfing). Good luck though.

Still, after my luck, check out your local Pickles Aution House. Lots of ex-goverment uts and stuff there for a good price.

Ive had a Au ute before with the duel fuel and i paid 16000 and it had 92000 kays id proberrly go maxuimum on that ute $11000 due to the decent kilometres travelled if they dont accept go and have a look at pickles as they has some awesome deals there and a person on here keeps beating me to the written off t series up here in sydney

i would not pay more than 10G's for that, but i guess, its worth what ever you are willing to pay.
IMO, that is WAY to over priced!!

Yeh fair enough, i hear what your saying. I reckon between 10 and 11k would be fair.

I will have to try and beat him down a little, I have had a bit of a look at pickles etc.

Another thing is what price do you put on having to run around and look for something a grand cheaper? I usually get jack of it after 2 weeks!

scottc, I wouldn't worry about that many kays, for an AU 6 thats really 'just run-in' as they say. Obviously no matter how many kays, just make sure it's in good mechanical nick anyway (at least good inspection and test drive).

GK, those prices all for an XH - surely an AU would be a bit different value wise? Also I'd expect utes would be holding there value somewhat better than sedans based on sales figures alone.

Just a few thoughts.

Steve, Check the info again, the year of the vehicle still lets you know it's an AU.

there is a fixed priced car @ Pickles atm

Series 3 XL ute with ally tray, 5 speed manual and 43 400 kays for $14700 , so that sorta makes your look about 6 grand over the money.

Yeah, good point, that means it's a typo from RedBook then - so do the prices they've listed match the date or the model though?

EDIT: Hang on - you sure the XHII wasn't still the current model in '99? Remember the AU utes weren't released till sometime after the AU sedans.

Yeah 15g is way to high, somewhere in the vincity of $8-12g depending on overall condition I would think.

Mate - I have an AUIII SE ute with 45k on the clock and all that comes with being an AUIII (SE) including allows, cruise, tbar auto, etc. I am asking a touch more than $15000 and mine has never hauled anything. You can do better imo.

I am trying to beat the price down at the moment. If I can get him down to $12,000 I will get it, cos it is excactly what I am looking for, with the 3 seater cloumn shift, brand new aluminium tray, duel fuel, nice and neat, and also I really don't have time travelling all over the place trying to find something else a grand or 2 cheaper.

I put a deposit on it today. I reckon I paid a little over the odds, but at the end of the day when you weigh things up it was pretty good.

I'm looking forward to doing a few things to it, especially a dev kit!
