Default Downside of a cammed engine

Reversed out my driveway yesterday, went for the bakes and there was nothing there! Found the handbrake just in time to avoid mounting the curb.

Here is what caused the problem:

My guess is after 18 months of a lumpy enigne pulling on the vacuum line the booster has decided to finally give up.

Anyone with the plastic booster found on later e-series might want to check out theirs and maybe add some support.

My guess is your guess is incorrect. Morel likely Heat plus material flaw.

If your engine had enough vacuum to distort the Booster it would have sucked your air filter through the butterfly!

Im not saying vacuum distorted the booster. At idle the engine is rocking slightly left-right and is pulling on the hose, which is bending the connection back and forth. I think this weakens and eventually cracks the booster around the connection.

Going to replace the booster and use a slightly longer vacuum line and anchor it to the firewall to stop movement.

That'd be wise.

would have been wiser to have realised there was a problem and fix it before it broke. Ahh well.

Repco want about $350 for a new booster. Hope I can find one cheaper elsewhere!

Sounds like a good idea, some people just don't have a clue and obviously can't read properly.

Same thing happened in my EF, and silicone won't plug the gaps either. I've been told AU ones fit, so there should be a constant supply in wreckers for years to come.

Athol Park charged me 50 dollars I believe for a replacement.

Its a very common problem with EF's, as Ford went to the plastic Booster.
i know of at least 12 people who have had the booster crack.
99% of these cars where stock.
I doubt the problem was cam related.
