i am looking at freighting an item from vic to act but i am looking at what company to go through and the price
any ideas

As long as it is secured well on a pallet and wrapped at least (not leaking either) ... most courier companies will be able to send it anywhere for you.

You will need to let them know exact dimensions and weight to they can give you a price.

Also A and B-end addresses as well.

Pretty much standard stuff for sending items interstate.
Overnight backhaul is usually the cheapest rate.

I deal with freight companies everyday, I manage a warehouse in Sydney. In my experience with something heavy/fragile/expensive like an engine you are better off finding someone with a ute and paying them $150 plus fuel to drive it up. It's only VIC- ACT, its not a huge trip and I wouldn't trust a big company.

You clearly deal with the wrong companies then, we average 3-4 semi's a day just to vic and we cart everything from toilet paper to bourben and very very rarely get damages. We cart engine's and gear box's for MB truck's worth $3o,ooo+ a hit and have never had any of them damaged, normally the stuff that get's damaged hasn't been seccured/packed by the sender properly.

Besides that try and find someone who will drive from melb to syd for $15o, i'd have a guess and say despite leaving from either end they'd need a return trip to.

Allow $15o to get it to syd and another $75 to act max. Vic to act isn't a very common route and it will be quicker and cheaper to run it via syd first.

VIC to ACT via Sydney? You’re kidding aren’t you? Every “big” courier company would have a depot or at least sub-contractor in ACT and incase you hadn’t noticed ACT is on the way to Sydney! What courier company would spend the extra money and time to go via Sydney?

Your also telling me I don’t use the right courier companies??? Well you would get a good deal as your company would send a lot of freight and as a result get a good freight rate from the courier. For Xebeast, he wouldn’t have an account with a company or have built up a history with them and would be charged heaps for a one off delivery. You are also not taking into account the cost of properly packing an engine for the one off trip.

It would therefore be cheaper or at least the same price to send it up with a delivery driver. You also get the piece of mind that it is being looked after and not trashed in a couriers depot/truck. To me that’s worth any extra freight costs!!

Meld to ACT and back is a days drive. $150 is a days pay. Seems like a good deal to me, hell if I lived in Melb I would do it.

And as I said above and as you have pointed out you send heaps!!!

No i'm not. Courier's are used for mostly small & urgent deliveries, transport companies send freight interstate.

Ok as i mentioned your a tool if you even try a courier to send **** interstate, We use another transport company to deliver our act stuff for us, xebeast will most likley get the same or as close to as possible pricing as we would. As far as an account goes you've never heard of CASH, there's more than 1 way to pay a bill. Cost of packaging it is about $o.5o, put the engine on a plt and strap it down.

You clearly know nothing about the transport industry and need to take a walk.

Ok pay is a bit low but i'll cop that, what about fuel & wear and tear on the car/ute. Gunna be alot more than $15o.

I'd be VERY surprised if ANY freight company would take a motor From Vic to the ACT for less than $200. Depot to depot, not door to door.

Obvious some people don't work for courier companies ... and to take a single ute to do that delivery off the fleet for the day ... it will be WELL over $200 a day. You need to take into account a few things ... the driver's time ... fuel ... and running costs ... it also includes their return run costs as well.

It goes on distance and classed as an express rate country job (if using a metro fleet vehicle) ... I did a Sydney to Inverell night job (one small box) .... mind you this would be similar distance to Melb to Act ... and I was paid a handsome sum of $900 for the job (this was through the company i work for) ... and engine would cost you more.

Cheaper to put it on the back of the semi ... much cheaper indeed ... and the larger companies have a responsibility to make sure the item makes it there in one piece.

Put it this way ... Sydney to Canberra is on average a $300-$400 job ... depending on size ... and that's to the driver ... the company makes money on top of that ... so the customer gets charged more than that.

Your best bet would be to go through the ACT yellow pages. Look under the general freight section make a few phone calls and see who has a depot in Melb.

Generally a smaller (local ACT) freight company will be cheaper than a large national one, who prefer to deal with regular or bulk customers

A 'one off' freight consignment with a multi national company will cost big dollars as Mechan1k mentioned.
