Default HELP! Au XR6 manual stalls on ldle

This morning i went to start my car and my battery died. It was the factory one so i didnt think much of it and just replaced it. Tonight when i got it going again it wouldnt idle without stalling. I thought it may have been some crappy fuel so i filled it up with a tank of BP ulimate. After driving around for around 10mins it still does it. When i turn the AirCon off it wont stall but it will drop down to around 500rpm and then back up to 900rpm and back down again.

It is a AU2 XR6 Manual with 65k on the clock. Any ideas would be great, i guess the next thing would be to change the fuel filter? Or is it something with the computer?

disconnect the battery again, let it off for about half an hour, then reconnect and go through the standrad relearn procedure (i think aufalcon.com has a write up on that), idle without ac, idle with ac, etc ...

give that a go ..

yeop, and the ECU reset thing, ACTUALLY WORKS.. i had the same prob, but i have an auto, seemed to do the trick for me!

Ok so now im at work.. it only stalled twice and it ran pretty good but i still want to reset the ecu, but when i looked at aufalcon.com it says for a manual put it in gear.. I dont see how this would load the engine up. Do i need to slip the clutch with the handbreak on or do i just sit there with the car in gear with my foot on the clutch?

hahah.... ONLY STALLED TWICE. .... GOLD.

from what i gather, i would say that you just have to depress the clutch an select a gear i think? dont know about riding the clutch though.

i hope you solve the problem though!

So let me get the sequence of events right. (pulled from aufalcon.com

- Take off the positive terminal lead
- When power is re-connected, start car and idle in this sequence
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in gear (clutch down) and A/C on.
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in gear (clutch down) and A/C off.
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in neutral and A/C on.
- 2 minutes idling with the transmission in neutral and A/C off.
- Drive the car on the road, for at least 5 minutes under variable throttle positions.

Variable throttle positions relate to what?

As in use various styles of acceleration - slow acceleration, medium acc'n, high acc'n and a few in between...

actually my car in the shop for the very same problem - i'll try this and see if it works....

Yup i just did that and but for the 5min drive i just gave everything to it : now she is sweet as

Well my mechanic couldnt figure it out....

Can some enlighten me on how to actually disconnect the positive terminal??

I've just been trying for 20 minutes and the damn thing is stuck hard. I loosened the bolt and connector, but i can't actually pull off the cable - anyone have any suggestions?

really... that is weird as!
should be able to jiggle it around once you have loosened the bolts!

try some W/D spray if you still can get her off?? or use two screw drivers, lay one down on the battery and use the other one as lever and pop it off?????

remember you need to drain all power out of the ECU, apparently there is some power left in it even with the battery disconnected!

so you need to leave it off for 45 minutes or more then try the reset.
i ususally take it off over night if i can park the car in the garage then do it in the morning to make sure its really reset!

There we go she popped off after using ure little lever trick. It was pretty firmly stuck in, which I think is because of some weird yellow spray the mechanic put on it when it was in - some anti corrosion stuff i guess.

Anyway i'll reset the ecu this evening cause i dont have a garage....god i hope it fixes the issue - the bloody car has gone to the mechanic 3 times this week!

resetted it last nigth and tonight for goood measure but no luck unfortunately...really starting to irritate me espcially in traffic.
