I keep failing at the moment.
But I do have the drive to give it a serious go now, and get signed up at a gym, as my uncle who is only 48 had his second stroke in 18 months last week.

I'll be honest here and say that hell yeah, I been around and done some crazy stuff!!
I started smoking both cigarettes and weed on a casual basis when I was 12. I started smoking fairly regular when I was 16, got sick of it and didn't touch a cigarette again until I was 20. I was still smoking weed though. At 21, I was highly addicted to smokes and weed and I had a supply of weed coming out my ears. I was then a fairly heavy smoker up until 4.5yrs ago now. I decided to quit and just went cold turkey. I gave my half a bag of weed and almost a full packet of smokes to a mate and have NEVER touched either in the past 4.5yrs. I feel so much better now and withing the first 2 weeks of quitting, food started tasting GREAT again. For anyone that wants to quit, SERIOUSLY just go all out and go COLD TURKEY and just stay strong. The trick is to keep telling yourself that you don't want it. Keep repeating it in your head and after a while you don't have to tell yourself anymore because it is drummed into your subconscious state GOOD LUCK to ALL that are considering quitting

Just checking back in here, It's now been 74 days for me
My little android app is telling me I have not smoked 1483 cigs and saved $1127.08 so far Have had some strong urges at times but manage to suppress them, Funny thing now though is when I drink I have zero interest in the smokes The day after the urges are stronger for some reason but one good thing about not smoking is the hangovers are bugger all now |

a lot of you folks are placing too much emphasis on the time factor, whilst a quick glance now and again doesn't hurt ............dont dwell on it
put the fags into the section of "not important anymore".......dont think about them just simply enjoy life!!! PSSSSssttt! bloody well done the lot of you.....even the "failed to do it this time" mob.....never stop trying!!!

tbh, you can only quit successfully if you truly want to. I personally would start again if it made me happy, but i know from failed attempts that i dont enjoy it like i used to when i first started 15 years ago. Last edited by AU Mont; 08-07-2013 at 03:49 PM. |

But going back to your very first post you mentioned you were coughing blood, you were at 142kg and you have 2 kids. My suggestion would be to look at your lifestyle, see what encourages you to smoke. Are you going out with mates a lot or have a style of life that allows you to smoke a lot? is your work stressful that makes you want to smoke? And it's the same with weight issues. (I have battled with weight for many years, too). But the overriding reason for you to do something about your weight and smoking is have a good look at your kids and think about how it would be without them in your life and what it would be like for them to be without their Dad. Most of the things we do in life are for emotional reasons not practical reasons, so if your kids and your health aren't emotive enough, I don't know what else is. Good luck with your efforts.

well done. I started at about 15 and smoked until I was about 33. I got the tablets from the doctor and never looked back. now I run, cycle, go to the gym and occasional kick boxing. I am 45 and never felt better. dumbest thing I ever did was take up smoking, but I started for the same reason everyone else did.

Stuff is like spraying chilli spray in your mouth. I'm not gonna lie though I've had a couple of darts since I stopped but, they tasted like ****.

I dont know if i have mentioned it in this thread, but i used prescription Champix from a doctor.
Worked brilliantly for me and the thing is, you just keep smoking and eventually you just start to dislike the taste and forget about the cravings (it subdues those) In the end you ween off the smokes and presto, can smell things from a mile away. You keep using the champix though for the entire month dose script May 27th 2011 i quit smoking, best thing i did other then buying a V8 NOW, im quitting carbs. Carbs seem to be harder, exercising and getting healthy properly. Been 8 days (start of July) Is basically my Dry July

Ask yourself what's harder not having a smoke or sitting by the phone for days waiting on CT scan results to confirm or clear you of lung cancer. You ask yourself that and complaining about not having a smoke soon makes you look like the biggest pussy in town. But good work on giving up to those that have

its all in your head whether or not you want to quit.
if your not serious and only give it a half hearted attempt, you will fail! I went through the whole nicabate pre-quit patches and got halfway through the 3rd step, which is about 6 weeks no durries and decided to go off the patches completely.. its ****en hard at first though it does get easier. have been off nicotine now for 2.5 months.... had been smoking for 14 years...

At 100km/h on the city link if the driver in front of me is smoking and has his window down I can't stand the smell and have to change lanes.
As an ex smoker it shakes your body with just a whiff..it's a physical response. Very unpleasant smelling other peoples smoke when you choose not to smoke anymore....makes me realize what an ******* I was to non smokers for years.. |

I have a similar story to rsgerry. You won't look back once stopping. Everything becomes easier over time, you just need to have your head in the right place. I will never criticize those that do, but would love to see them stop.

I started smoking when I was 16. I gave up on Jan 20 last year at 5pm - at which stage I was 43. So I had smoked for 27 years, less 9 months somewhere along the way in the early 90s that I stopped for. So I m no smoke free for the last 17 months, 19 days, 5 hours 37 minutes, and counting. Not one cigarette, cigar, or anything to do with a smoke. I used champix, and I also learnt Pi to 50 decimal places - I recited it each time I felt like a smoke. Now I don't smoke, and I don't remember much past 3.14159265358979

January 27, 2002, about 6:30 am, sitting out the back with a coffe and smoke, halfway through the smoke I put it out and decided this time it is on. This was my third attempt and the successful one. I have never tried nicotine patches or chewies or champix or any of that sort of thing, just plain trying.
As said above, you must have your head right, or it won't work. to those that try and fail, don't consider it failing, you are working up to the final, successful attempt. good luck to all trying to quit. And yes, I absolutely HATE the smell of cigarettes. |

One thing i found, when trying to set a date to quit, it never worked.
With the champix i used, i kept smoking but everytime i had one, i questioned myself why the hell am i smoking it and with its help, it worked Its like a dodgy friend. It smells, it takes money from you and never repays it back and makes you feel like crap
