Since that "Streamliners" reunion at Goulburn was held. SSR lost one of their beaut old diesels in the Marrar / Old Junnee derailment. March 2023.

Two were damaged but reading sadly one was twisted beyond repair.

What a mess.

Yeah the two 620's to survive 621 belongs to Steamranger and was running until very recently the other 624 resides at the National Railway Museum in Port Adelaide. The SAR is pretty well represented in the Museum with a smattering of Commonwealth Railways engines and Rolling stock and and a few Silverton Tramway exhibits.

Any any stories that go with them?

feel for all those involved in the Broken Hill train/truck smash, and leaving the courts to decide although it looks pretty rough on the old truckie.
Q considering the freight train was coming from Broken Hill, would it have stopped there or gone straight through, what speed would that train have been going at?
The damage to containers in mad crazy.
what about poor sods waiting on freight etc from overseas, get this far and bugga thats gone.

Perth-Sydney and Sydney-Perth do crew changes at Broken Hill, sometimes crew there ready to continue on while other times they will be stabled for a few hours. Track speed is 115kph but I think there was or had been a TSR at the crossing of 80.

Terrible crash.

Instantly thought of the Kerang VLine passenger service hit by our own Canny's from Wangaratta.
11 passengers where killed in that one.
Don't know what the driver was thinking but blamed fog.

Yeah its worth a look try and go for a time when the Kanni station exhibit is open the memorabilia is almost as impressive as the locomotives and rolling stock. If you look carefully on my pic thats my car out the back of the railway museum.

Some useless information to ponder but did you know the original pilot movie didn't feature the aerodyne. K125.

Still a K125 cabover but a small bunk flat top. If you ever watch the BJ intro on YT you can see the 78 model truck as a close up.

The 1979 2 part pilot is also on YT.

Yes it is.

Stupid idea imo, should continued (heavy rail) line as was originally planned to Epping as another loop line.

A clear and persistent manifestation of outright snobbery, not wanting people from the West to easily access the North Shore.

Part of it is about minimising unions influence
Driverless trains run from ? Epping / Chatswood/ later Central/ Bankstown
Trams Parra or Westmead to Carlingford … ?

The whole $ydney rail network was a good system until they started to introduce the Metro driverless stuff. Now it has 2 differing operating rail networks instead of one.

Before they modified the Nth Ryde station to Cahtswood in the east and Epping to the west, it was possible to stay on the same train all the way to the city, the same train would then continue on all the way to Richmond at the time.

This trains starting point was either Berowra or Hornsby. All they had to do was build the tunnel system out to Castle Hill and onto Richmond suitable for the existing double decker trains. Instead of fannying around using different carriages and track infrastructure on tube train style tunneling.

All this to save money on paying guards and drivers, while "saving" money using imported carriages.

thanks again Glady.
She really wanted to be known for something while she was Transport Minister along with privatising the $ydney, Newcastle and the Gong bus network.

In time those bus operators will be brought back to govco operating

The best bus operator I see is Brisbane City Council modern fleet some great drivers and a professional feel about it

Gladys showed the unions- you betcha!

Too bad in time it will be seen for a fork up
