I can't afford a Roller or Aston. The mainstream daily drivers are mostly RHD European sourced cars, a lot being Asian brands that are built in Europe. |

The other issue the UK has is that half of the vehicles produced in those plants are exported mostly to Europe, so they might have viability issues if those exports dry up.

Looks a bit better than most U.S. cop cars ..probably go better too .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7KgisjkIvo There was a time when Ford contemplated bringing in Aussie Falcons to try in the lucrative cop car etc market but they didn't of course . Holden did sell a few to PD's...and 12,000 VF's and not too sure how many Commodores sold as G8's and Pontiacs before that to the public and didn't make any real difference ultimately did it ? The Commodore has a real fraternity there too with a lot of passion..Still made no difference.. Holden and Ford were on borrowed time for a long time . I'm just thankful now that we had our Aussie content cars for as long as we did . |

We have done for ages, there is the possibility of more perhaps depending how Brexit goes?. Land Rover, Jaguar, Mini are uniquely British. Vauxhall, Toyota, Honda and Nissan do sometimes make somewhat bespoke local cars too.

Uniquely british? German and Indian owned. The days of them being completely british are long gone. Not sure how much they can even be considered British. Especially Mini which shares platforms and engines with BMW.

Where else in the world are we going to import them from Boss? Dont miss the point... Using your thinking Falcon, Territory and Commodore were American...

No, Falcon and Commodore were designed and developed here, Mini is developed in Germany, not sure where their design house is.

The last large volume British car company was MG Rover and it went out of business in 2005.

If you mean owned then fair enough, however Jaguar/Land Rover have more volume than they did, particularly in 2004....

If the dealers are getting short changed, I wouldn't want to be a consumer with future warranty, service and parts needs.
On a different point I wonder how Roland Dane and 888 are going with their contract discussions. Apparently the parties met last week but Mr Dane is very tight lipped;makes me think he is getting little traction. Last edited by minheim; 26-02-2020 at 11:47 AM. Reason: typos grammer |

Here I was years ago, dreading that this was how Ford would exit Australia.
GM has really given Commodore a Dutch oven send off...... Roland Dane would be wise to take 888 elsewhere as I doubt that GM will be extending support to a discontinued product/ Brand |

Scotty from marketing and that POS Michaela Cash will probably side with GM though. How dare these small business's reject an offer from big business. |

Bit rich of them caring now, when their party basically killed holden when they dared them to leave in 2014 though. They really got what they wanted. |

If there was a good quid to be made then they'd have stayed. They were and are still losing money hand over fist. It was a business decision - nothing more. |

I agree that it was a business decision. What is interesting is to look at the way GM survived the US Financial Crisis. Especially compared to Ford and Chrysler. I believe that this is a delayed result of that crisis, delayed by extreme government measures. GM are now going through the pain that the other two 'US' companies went through. A Complete withdrawal from all right hand drive markets - this is a very big thing. This is not about Holden, this is not about the Australian market. |

As far as I'm concerned GM is dead here. I will never buy anything they try to flog new and I think I can say most of Australia would agree with me.
RHD my ****, GM's problem is their sourcing and it's been mostly crap. |

If they brought Cadillac here with some good rwd muscle cars that would ease the pain somewhat. |

We can make that happen if we can convert Rams, Camaros, and Silverados. The last thing left is the 300 if you want a RWD V8. Maybe they will bring in the Charger and Challenger. None of those are GM anyways, |

A fair bit of Holden...and Ford ,Toyota , Mitsubishi etc.. from the past 20 years or so on this for anybody who hasn't seen it . Not a bad show was this . Wait til you see the bit about the U.S. Territory opinion within the USA at about the 16 minute mark..Says it all really .Can't have a car from elsewhere even if it's a Ford being sold over local (U.S) stuff .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3VrlH1Cwh4&t=8s ..From doing pretty well to obliteration in this time period .

Forgot to mention from my previous post earlier today relating to Ep 4 of End of an Era with Shane Jacobsen .. In relation to car sales with Free Trade Agreements our politicians negotiated as described in the video link I posted seems to have limited any chance to sell especially into Asia/Europe and such due to them leaving import tariffs for engines over a certain size. One expert said that it wasn't really a level playing field in the car industry ..Maybe our politicians could have negotiated the nuts and bolts in that regard of the FTA's a lot better .. Might not have been a catalyst to save the car industry forever but it certainly sped up it's demise by the look of it going by what they said .
