I'm still not really sure what people are squawking about?

If you bought a Hilux (or Ranger) would that not be classified commercial?
There has to be a definition, there is, they have applied it. Just because you feel personally aggrieved doesn't make it wrong.

The current Commode utes, and the old Falcons don't have a separate chassis under the tub. ie , you can't remove the tub and substitute a tray or some other body. But you can with a Falcon, Hilux, etc. That's the definition, get over it.
They have to make a distinction somehow, and that's what it has always been.
I haven't had to look at it for a while, but last I did it was actually an advantage for FBT purposes.

Toll catogories is cars, LCV & HCV, to me a car is a sedan & wagons, commercial vehicles have always been utes, panel vans, light trucks & heavy trucks when it came to registration.

Cheers.

I just received a letter from Citylink advising me that my styleside ute is now a light commercial, the flyer is date 14 july so I think Citylink is chasing parity with Eastlink
Been using citylink for 15 years in this same vehicle

Default Ford Falcon ute drivers charged more than Holden ute drivers on CityLink, EastLink

Oh dear......

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/n...63f9f17da54f86

Quote:
THOUSANDS of Ford ute drivers will have to fork out more than their Holden counterparts to travel on toll roads in Victoria.

EastLink and CityLink have both admitted to wrongly billing many Ford ute drivers who now face increased tolls. But owners of Holden utes remain untouched.

VicRoads classifies Holden utes as a “car” but a Ford Falcon ute as a “light commercial vehicle” due to differences in construction design.

This means a trip along EastLink from Springvale Rd to the Frankston Freeway would cost Ford Falcon ute drivers $9.67 while their Holden counterparts would be charged only $6.04.

A complete trip during peak time along CityLink in a Holden ute would cost $8.69 or $11.57 in a Ford.........

Similar here .. etag stopped working .. applied for new one and get an additional letter indicating the FG XR6 ute is now classed and charged as commercial. Looking at this thread this has been around a long time .. why do they only seem to be contacting ute owners when they contact them?

Edit: Just reread a few posts up and realised looks like Citilink chasing parity with Eastlink ..

Seems more than a coincidence that CityLink are now rigidly enforcing the commercial vehicle classification for Falcon utes, now that this vehicle is no longer being manufactured.

Ford wont care less about it now. They would have before, as they would have lost sales because of it. So I can see that CityLink are now taking advantage of the ute no longer being in production.

The disparity is the Holden utility still stays as private if registered as such but a Falcon ute with the same rear tub style is a commercial? This is a grey area. As for Ford classing it as commercial it was them that embraced the 'Sports ute" market
As for those who insist we should suck it up, Bollocks! If you sit on your ar$e and do nothing then you will get ripped off and walked on.
cheers
Bill.

If all Commodore Utes are still classified as cars because the tub is integral with the cab, where does that leave the Crewman ute?

I heard Eddie Mcguire giving it to an Eastlink rep today on Triple M Melbourne, arguing the Falcon Ute is the same a Commodore Ute and them classifying the Falcon as a light commercial was all BS and to give the Falcon Ute owners a fair go.

Needless to say they really didn't give 2 sh... about it, but at least media are jumping on this now and applying pressure.

Gonna be a bit about it on the project tonight too.

To me it's bordering on fraud, especially for those cases where historically they've been charged at one rate then one day just decided to change the rules And charge what they want.

To charge a commercial rate, the vehicle in question should be in use in a commercial capacity.

You should check what they are homologated as then.

Conversely, I don't see anyone complaining about the cheaper rego that falcon utes pay compared to sedans.
Don't know about commodore equivalent though....

Pursuit 2014 ute redg says vl light vehicle so I presume that's a car says nothing about commercial.Doesnt really affect me as I rarely use toll roads but I would like them to explain to me what sort of commercial vehicle has a v8 supercharged engine.

So I wonder if those vy/vz one tonner conversions get hit as a commercial vehicle as well?

I was referring to Falcon Ute v Commodore Ute. I have a Falcon Ute, love the cheaper rego. My car is longer, wider and heavier than my other halfs 3 yet is cheaper to register.
