The new Ford SUVs appeal to a broader range of potential buyers than most existing Ford fans and buyers are accustomed to.
Ecosport, Kuga, Territory and hopefully Everest will finally give Ford the line up it needs to at least match Toyota's offerings.

This is what we have to understand, in order for Ford to flourish and grow, it needs to attract today's buyers,
not just give ex-Falcon buyers something else to buy, this is all about grabbing back the competition's buyers
and converting them to a new generation of Ford owners who appreciate the technology and style available today.

Hey if it sells then I say good on Ford.

I would like the missus to get a small SUV one day, buying Ford, I'd stretch for the Kuga

I like it! I think it's a cool little gadget and should be popular in that market segment and hey, it's a Ford and shows great thinking outside of the box.

My girl drives an immaculate Ka2 which we love to death. I can see this being a logical progression into something more modern and it suits her cute personality perfectly. Besides, I've told her there will never be anything other than Fords in our driveway.

Lets face it, the Ford enthusiasts market is becoming rather niche.
There are those amongst us who dont need the tech gizmos in our cars, satisfied with the current Ford offerings, love Falcons, straight 6s, V8s and will continue to buy fords. But theres a whole lot of other markets/customers that ford need to tap into in order for the brand survive.

Back to the topic, i like the look of the EcoSport and from Drives initial review out of India, they seem to like it too (despite the inconsistencies in build quality)

The closest figures i can find for 1.0 EB Ecosport is the European B-Max 1.0 EB with a combined of 5.1 l/100 km.
You can see that Ford is trying to achieve near diesel fuel economy without the price premium...

Yep, diesel economy, it seems others (Peugeot at least) are going the same way.

yep. Id probably rather have a space saver over a fullsize spare on the back that looks out of place.

I'm the opposite. My neighbour brought a current model Kuga home the other day. Nice looking jigger. Quite an attractive modern design. Ecosport, Kuga, Territory are all about modern lifestyle. More market share for Ford!

Having a space saver on the back would look even sillier than a full size spare regardless of whether it'll ever see even a dirt road or not.

I like it. For someone looking at a traditional Corolla/Golf/Pulsar $35k car, this is an interesting alternative. For anyone who's getting too old to climb down into a low car, the extra bit of height would be handy. My MIL just retired and is looking for a new car. I've been in her ear about a sub-compact or compact SUV instead of a hatchback. She's got a (poxy) Astra atm and I see her struggling in and out of it. She's just looked at the Rav4 and a couple of others and she loves the height and apparent spaciousness that comes with a tall box body style.

We've got a Fiesta and Pajero. Whilst I love the Fiesta, I much prefer the drivign position in the Paj. I'd look at a compact SUV next time around for sure.

I can recommend the Jazz as THE perfect city car for the elderly who don't want to climb down into a car.
No problem country cruising either and a great mini wagon.

For the 4WD model available in Brazil, that empty space is occupied by the rear differential, the Independent rear suspension and the relocated transverse mounted rear exhaust silencer (to clear the rear half shafts?)

It looks like they wanted to just use one cargo floor design for both FWD and 4WD models.

Unlike the Kuga or Escape, the EcoSport has a short rear overhang.

In most respects, the Jazz is a VERY AVERAGE car. The Ecosport will be in a different class and much better.

Its really hard to say which of the two different types of vehicles is better since its like comparing apples to oranges.
One is an MPV-like hatchback, the other is a higher-riding crossover SUV.
I think they're both fine in their own respective segments/classes.

I think this is all sorts of winning.

The practicality, of the high riding SUV 2 box design, small light & full of gadgets.

It's not for me, unless they shoehorn a 5.0 Miami motor into it, but if they price is right it will sell its socks off.

And that's good for everyone.

If a TREND, auto, is $22k drive away..Might get one for the missus, trade in the WQ Fez.
Thats going to be the deciding issue, a realistic price...Titanium would be on the list but no auto so, not interested..lets hope FORD don't overprice it...like the first KUGA, was......no 4wd ?? for Australia ?? seems an odd decision????

At the moment China, India and Thailand will only produce FWD models.
Most likely to keep the prices low.
I read that Australian spec EcoSports will come from India.

Only the Brazilian EcoSport (LHD only?) gets a 4WD option (mated to the old flex fuel 2.0 Duratec).

I am baffled so many people hate this. I think it looks tuff as! The mini Territory looks make it far more masculine looking than Fiesta and complements it's dad in the showroom. Also, that spare wheel adds a touch of old school grit to a really vacuous segment.

They're probably just not used to this type of vehicle.

I really think the front end works better on the EcoSport because the styling looks much more cohesive (the front end matches the rest of the body).

I agree. I think it is a great looker. Much better than the ugly, boring ASXs.

So Ecosport is getting closer! I am actually quite excited about this, not because I want to buy one, but I think we can sell quite a few and get more Fords on the road.

I think most people wouldn't know or care, they would be more after the higher driving position. What will kill it is if the price is off the pace and Ford's marketing campaign for the car is rubbish.
