I have to laud the “silver lining” positivity of NSW’s Health Minister:

I'm patiently waiting for the new (Insert really scary name here) variant that will surface on June 28 so the current state of emergency restrictions can be extended further. Is anyone taking bets on what they're going to call it?

Very little information offered today on the “four new locally acquired cases” in Victoria, as in, were they random or close contacts, were they in isolation at all?

I am alpha and omega....when we get to omega is it game over?

All part of the same family. They are concerned with upstream (who passed it to them) but not as concerned with down stream (who they may pass on to) as they have been isolating. Still a mystery how they caught it, but there is a casual link with one of the shopping centres on the exposure site.

Only change is mask back on for outdoors.

Federal assistance will cease tomorrow because metro melb will no longer be regarded as a hotspot. Which raises an interesting question, if when there is a next outbreak, will state gov be more inclined to let the cases run for weeks on end because there will be federal assistance? What is the federal criteria for a "hotspot"?

T3: I went back and reviewed the news articles. More meat has appeared on their bones during today. It was initially laid out quite “blind” - this unimpressed me.

There is another significant change occurring at midnight affecting NSW. Beyond that point, unless a new edict advises differently, people entering New South Wales from Victoria no longer have to isolate fourteen days. I guess this is a bit late for @Polyal. :-/

The NSW state COVID information portal remains reasonably “user friendly” - which is good.

leesa: Looks like you’re the crash test pilot.

Did I just hear hundreds of OS students will be let in starting next month?

But.. we can't travel for pleasure under ANY circumstances and my OS family and friends that wish to visit can't under ANY circumstances...

Let the same government remind us that perhaps borders will open some time mid next year.

While he is country hopping, attending 'meetings'....

What an effing joke...

Commercial flights to Australia in 2 months that can cater for 500+ students per month?

Just checked. Sydney had 22 international arrivals today. Half were from NZ.

Didn't think it was that high to be honest.

They already do... only the rich and famous type...

But it's not about the money, it's about keeping everyone safe

As I alluded to previously - 11 international flights arrived in Sydney from non bubble destinations.

Who is on those flights? Under what reason?

Even if only half full that's well over 1500 people just today. Just in Sydney.

Some are cargo only, I believe. That’s not suggesting they all are, but a couple, maybe more.

And to review my prior questioning of the semantics in “lockdown” vs “restrictions”… I think one significant twist in the permissions is probably the removal of explicit reasons people may leave their dwelling, and time restrictions thereupon.

Just goes to show you there are people allowed to travel if they apply for exemptions for whatever allowable reasons, been going on since the start of the Covid outbreak.

Why would I be jealous as I have no intention of air travel for my recreational activities in the near future; be a bit hard to fit my caravan on board a flight.

Need to take into account that not all planes are full....or not even half full. For instance, when my bro in law flew in from the US and landed in Syd, he and (some other person I think?) were the only ones on the flight. So that might count as 1 plane, but only 2 people entered.

The incoming passenger stats are published monthly on the abs website.

Anyone in Melb wanting to get a Pfizer booking, today is a good day to call. My original appointment was not for another month, but I called this morning and was able to make another appointment earlier. There are slots available as early as Sunday. But since work allows us to take time out for jabs, I decided on Tuesday . Sanddown as opposed to MCC was a bonus.
