WTF? I'm 22 and stick to the speed limits, and I know lots of other younger drivers who do as well. I did get booked once back in 2002 for being 15kph but I've learnt my lesson. On the other hand, when my Dad was young, he drove an XA GT Coupe and was an absolute hoon. He was constantly above the speed limit. I think he said he got it over 130mph a few times. Back then though, you could nearly get away with driving at those speed, because speed cameras were non existant. He did get caught by the cops a couple of times though. These days, everyone are too scared to speed, even when overtaking. That's what the overuse of speed cameras and radar has done. You can speed for a few seconds while overtaking, and you'll recieve an unwelcome surprise in the mail.

well, im 21, and i got done by a speedbus on St pauls tce doing 71... tisk tisk... those unsafe youngins...

i speed, i cop it, and i pay my 100 bucks and 1 point. The track is for speed, but honestly, those of you who say he is an idiot are quite likely just to be hypocrites! I know of NO ONE who has not exceeded 130 kph at some stage in their life. (those who have actually been on a highway, in any case) This includes my grandpa who never had any infringements over a 70 year driving history.

Everyone speeds. Its a fact of life. you sneeze driving a falcon, theres a big chance you will speed. maybe not 220, but nonetheless.

Id like to see where he was caught. No doubt it was a flat strech of multi laned highway with no entry/exit for miles. City streets, thats different. There are varying degrees of stupidity

HAHHAH Dan thats gold.

What ever, the kid will be walking for a while, that is of course if the courts dont go soft, which they will.

I actually dont see why anyone caught over say 160 shouldn't be put in jail. While I know in the right scenario its going to be fine, on public roads its bloody stupid. And potentially you are going to murder someone.

So, I think its about time the courts make some examples, the penalties are no where near tough enough.

Damn whipper snappers.

Idiot.

There are track days, drag races, and burnout comps around the places for things to do stuff like this.

The ba falcon, the wagon and xl,xls utes are limited to 180, the xt sedans are limited to 200, and the xr series are limited to 220. Thats straight out of my ba xt sedan manual. The fpv series i not sure on. au and ba all had these limits on, the au could be different for the speeds. You can take the limiter off it when you have your car tuned. at different speed though.

Dan you are in the young age group. But anyway the stereotypic all young drivers are hoons is something that should be removed. There are alot of people out there that use there cars for hoon behaviour in proper events and not on public roads. There others that dont and are idiots and break the law.

I not going to say i never done anything illegal in my car. I have smoked tyres up in public and i do speed a little. But i know thats its wrong and i never do it where there are populated areas. I know cause its wrong if i get caught its my fault no one elses.

What concerns me though is that the coppers (well in QLD anyway) Aren't supposed to give chase as soon as the offending vehicle goes 40klms/hr over speed limit... How on earth did they "catch" him, or was he dumb and pulled over?? At that kind of speed they would have been doing pretty well to spot his licence plate!! Not condoning it (too much ) - just looking at it from another angle...

Put it this way...... The matter is not so much what you do in your car.... its where you do it. If he was doing it in a populated area, throw the book at him, otherwise.... its just tuff luck. :

All (factory) Falcons are resticted.

XL,XLS and XR6 are limited to 180km/h - due to their cheap, mile long tailshaft,
XR6 Turbo and XR8 are limited to 230km/h
FPV Utes are limited to 250km/h

Turbo, XR8 and FPV Utes have a two piece tailshaft.

totally agree mate, the majority of us young ones, act responsibly, and take speed to the track, not the streets, like SOME people think

I'm curious as to the truth in this. (not accusing Ringo, just his source)
For us interstate folk, who's Noel Ashby? If he's a 'Shock Jock' dont believe it.
How did they catch him. Mobile camera... By the time the law has stopped, turned around and given chase the ute would be long gone.
Fixed camera... fine in the mail and headlines on most papers.
And how many people who own a car capable of going that quick would let anyone else drive it?

The XR's are limited to 235kph unfortunately! Another reason why many HWP prefer V8's from the generals garage. I don't know why they chose to fit a limiter. Most probably to do with harmonics probs. Quite often it needs to be rectified with a stronger driveshaft which means floorpan mods. easier to whack on a limiter..

But I could be wrong!

Edit.. I just read a few more posts.. seems I'm repeating whats been said!
