I always use B.P. Ultimate.

But there's strange going's on lately with supply at certain times of the week. Usually on the lowest price/per/litre cycle which in my area is Tuesday/Wednesday. The servo's place a "Sorry fuel not available sign" on the bowser and come Thursday the discounting ends and B.P. Ultimate is available again. It might be a co-incidence or has anyone else experienced supply difficulties around the "low price cycle"??

Did anyone see the fifth gear episode where they did the fuel test?
and tests HP at the wheels?

This may add some info to which fuel to use for which type of car....

Although UK spec fuels are different from ours, They used a Supermarket fuel which was 95 Octane, BP Ultimate 98 and Shell Optimax 98.

See the article for further info...

E10 98 and nothing but. I have swapped back a few times to BP and Vortex 98 , but my ute seem to run better on E10 98 then normal 98

If they tested the cars as they described in the article the results are useless unfortunatey

OK what about economy. I just came to Melbourne from Sydney on ordinary fuel. I filled up tody with the above mix and I am leaving tomorrow. I will only top up with optimax on the way home but no additive. I will see how it goes. I averaged around 10.1 litres to 100k's on ordinary fuel. Let's see what the optimax provides.

On the highway in my manual Zetec I see mid 7's/100km at legal speeds. That's on PRemium 95 RON. 10 sounds high unless it's a CL auto... but even then that's pretty poor.

Well we've had our new LS CL Focus for a couple of weeks now, currently has standard unleaded in it (as we thought we would see what kind of power loss) and we are running at about 8.8 around town, which I'm pretty happy with, taking it up north in the next couple of days so am interested to see what kind of highway rates we get.

Can anybody tell me what the difference really is between using 95 and 91? Our Focus doesn't feel too bad around town anyway at using 91 fuel.

Your Focus is perfectly suited to regular, it is designed for regular unleaded (91) so it'll run happily forever and a day on 91.

If you wish to try a premium fuel 95-98 RON then go for it, you should potentially notice better performance and perhaps better fuel economy. The biggest thing will be the performance and feel.

I have to use premium as it is stipulated for my engine, however the new 2.0 in the LS is recommended for 91 RON regular and above.

i drive a 2003 focus zetec 2.0l manual with 57000k's.

i filled up with shell opitmax(after using 2 tanks of it driving around albury so it was a pure tank of optimax i used) and drove from albury to sydney and i got 7.5l/100kms

i filled up with normal caltex vortex 95(again no mixtures of other fuels solely caltex product) on the trip down and got 7.2l/100kms

i can feel no difference from 95 rate fuel to 98

You should feel the difference in city driving more so. I too did something similar and also noticed what seemed to be higher consumption on Vortex 98 this weekend. Felt a little stronger though. I'm sticking to Vortex regular.

Since I picked up the 06 Focus last Friday I've been driving round on the factory fuel... that is, whatever the dealer put in it and got 7.5L/100k.

Then a couple of days ago, I filled it with Optimax and the car for some reason felt like it wasnt as powerful and was chewing through 8.1L/100k. I've been doing city driving.

I'm about to drive from Melbourne to Sydney on Sunday and I'm going to fill it up with 98 RON all the way and see how it goes.

I just travelled 908.8km from Melbourne to Sydney. The car's computer shows that I got 6.3L/100k. I reset the gauge from filling up in Melbourne and I filled up again midway. Both times I put in Vortex 98. The A/C was on about 50% of the time during the trip. All I can say is wow! 6.3L/100k!!!

hope noone here uses normal unleaded very often, the focus really doesnt like it very much at all, it will take a tank everynow and then but not every fill up. Im preety sure that theres a little sticker on the fuel cap that says "premium unleaded only", Ford wouldnt put that there for no reason.

I've been using Optimax in mine granted I've only done 1,400km so far but after being an LPG owner for 5 years, paying $54 for 41 litres last week made me cry.

I'm wondering what everyone here is getting for their L/100km figures. I am only doing city driving in Sydney and am getting 11L/100km from the computer. Is this normal or is it alittle high?

3 tanks in about to fill up the 4th

I get between 7.8 and 8.5 per 100

Thats Sydney driving as well

I have filled up at about 560km and filled up 46 litres for a full tank.
After filling up the tank I always reset the relevent computer settings eg avg speed, distance etc

Also forgot to mention, it's an 06 LX manual

Ive also just changed from optimax exteme back to optimax. Price was a big determiner in this, but the extreme just doesnt "feel" as good to drive on.

I'm now on 2700km and just poured half a tank of BP Ultimate to see how it compares to Optimax. It cost $1.49 per litre! I will see how I go over the next few days. So far the average is 12.9L/100km for city driving, seems pretty high compared to most other Focus owners :(
