ok, ive tried multiple things and even took it to jase's place and he mucked around with it for a while (thanks mate) but it seems to STILL be on here..

ive decided that the only way to ditch it is a format and re-install, but ive never done it before....

how the hell do ya do it???

If you know the name of the process that's giving you grief, You could try disabling System Restore, Then re-starting in safe mode and disable it in MSCONFIG ( start>run>MSCONFIG ). Click the 'start up ' tab and un-check the process you want to stop. Should give you the chance to run your anti-virus software.

If you're set on re-formatting , save all your important documents to another partition before you do anything. Best to make sure you have all the drivers for all your hardware components. Depending on the OS and your BIOS settings it'll (the OS) be able to run from the CD. Once it starts running from the CD it's pretty intuitive, Just remember that you want to install a new instance of windows, and format the partition when prompted.

Got to do it while not in Windows...ie) boot disk, windows install disk, HDD software, or 3rd party disk management software...

Or as any good system administrator knows direct from the command prompt.

Before you trash your HDD though make sure you have written down all the fun stuff like you ISP and mail server details etc.

Have your system disks, program disks, login details all at hand and you can play with Format c: or Fdisk

First, explain to me how you're going to format a partition while it is locked by the OS?

I can't even spell compoota, but I re-formatted my boot partition to a NTFS format, installed Hitler permissions (sick of teenage crap on the compoota), and then installed Linux on my laptop.

Now I've got a good compoota network :
