Yep. In 2011 when they start adding excise. At this point in time, in 2015, the maximum will be 12.5c/L, which is still a lot less than the excise on petrol. We won't go in to the issue of GST on top of the excise. Another can of worms there...

It might be more expensive, but you sure do get a lot more for your money when it comes to small 4cyl diesel engines. It costs about the same to run the 2.0L diesel 307 compared to the 4.0L LPG Falcon. It varies as to which one is cheaper depending on the movement of fuel prices for the respective fuels. Currently, I think the Falcon is cheaper considering diesel has recently spiked in price.
As for driving, sure, the Falcon is quicker, but the Peugeot certainly makes up for it in the torque department. The 2.0L HDi has nearly the same amount of torque as the current BF XT 4.0L motor. Not to mention, a slightly smaller towing capacity, but the 307 is a manual and the XT auto, so if the 307 was auto, I'm sure it would possibly have the better towing capacity (braked trailer).

Agreed _2:

Having said that, I've never owned a V8, but if I did buy one in the future, it would be on LPG quick smart to save on fuel costs. But then again, I'm in different minds as to what sort of car to get next. A 6cyl diesel ute for towing (gotta get the boat buying past the wife first)? A XR6T for fun? But that is a couple of years away now...

At what point would I sell my V8. Well I did it at 1.30-1.50 a litre. I dont fancy paying my hard earned dollars to shell or any other oil company / government just to enjoy the noise and power of a v8.

As such. I have reverted to enjoying the race car rather than the road beast. I can stomach a fleet camry knowing I can spend and invest my money wisely.

If anything. next time around I would go a euro diesel or Turbo falcon

I drive a 2.4l petrol hilux every day, the Sprint is for sunny weekends so although i'm not that enthusiastic in paying $100 to fill my car it's not enough for me to sell her.

Selling mine now, expecting delivery of a V6 end of May. My days of V8 ownership will be officially over at that point. Fun ride while it lasted but time to look forward.

Hmm good question really. I just bought my V8 and will never sell it (unless I get another v8 - FPV maybe). The price of petrol is a concern to me as my XR8 is my daily drive, but I got no morgage/gf or anything else holding me back I might as well spend my money on something I enjoy.

And boy ill tell you I enjoy driving my XR8!

for me fuel is lokie food. i need it. so no matter what they charge i will pay it.
besides. im a contractor fuel is 1 of the few things i can use as a deduction.
cost me $130 per week and for that i get about 450-500kms.

v8's arnt that bad on fuel, my dad who i work with an I went to bundaberg to work 4 weeks ago and 1 tank got me there in my xr8 and i still had enough to get around all week. he on the other hand in his 6 cylinder ba 1 tonne just had enough to get there. it all depends on the kind of driving your doing. in the city start stop driving a tank would be lucky to get me 200 k's.

I drive about 500k a week to and from work in the xr8 ute. Costs me $100+ atm each week. Add on to this $650 and rising for home loan, $150 a week to pay off the ute, $250 a week to pay off the business, not to mention the extra living costs, and the excitement of a v8 is quickly wearing off (for now!!). Recently spoke to a Caltex rep who strongly advised that diesel is the way to go, reckons fuel is going to rise quite a bit. Seriously considering one of the diesel mazda 3's or equivalent, 800 to 1000k off a tank is a big saving in my books.

Might consider it at the end of the year, or when fuel gets near $2/L. I have been looking into either an XR6T or maybe and F6 that said there isnt 'all' that much difference in the 2 depending on how you drive them. I only do about 250km per week in the TE so it isnt bothering me YET as we have the g/f's pulsar

Being young, and on pretty good wages does have some good advantages, therefore ill never sell my V8!, well not due to the price of running it anyway!

My car is my hobby and only comes out in the summer time. Alot of people spend alot of money on their hobbies so $100.00 to fill it up 6 or 7 times a year I can justify. If my wife said no petrol money for what ever reason at least I can still go and admire my car which I enjoy, driving it or not.
I suppose it is all about priorities and I will provide for my wife and kids before putting dinosour wine in the GT...

My GT is a daily driver. Costs me roughly a tank of BP Ultimate a week, approx $90 worth in todays petrol prices.
So I do between 3 and 400 klms a week. So far, even with cruising, I have not had to fill it twice in any week. Car only has 2000klms on the clock, so is still tight.
My GT uses much less fuel than my previous daily driver, which is a 3.2 litre petrol V6 ute.
My GT has the 68 litre tank and I get around 400klms per tank so far, and thats driving hard around town and on the highway. Pretty much 50/50 town/highway driving. The tacho finds its way well past 3000rpm often and sees 5500rpm and the odd 6000rpm blast at least once a drive. So isnt babied.
My ute has an 85 litre tank and I get 500klms out of it maximum with more highway driving than town driving (75/25), if its all town work, that drops to 400klms per 85 litres. It dosent seem to matter if you thrash it or drive normally, these figures seem to stay consistant. The car isnt worn out or stuffed, its a 2003 model with documented 65k on the odo, is regularly serviced etc.

So for me the benafit is two fold, I get my dose of V8 everyday and it costs less than my gutless V6 to run.

Will I sell my V8 daily? HELL NO.. Would I downgrade to a 6 or 4 or deisel just to save $$ on fuel? NOPE. I wont even mention how much fuel my 351 Big Port GT Coupe engine uses....

As for Gas, well its only a matter of time before the Govt. decide to charge a decent excise, and eventually it will bring gas prices right up once the Govt. has conned enough people into converting with their nice fat rebates. Its only a matter of time.

I was thinking about buying GT-E, but with fuel prices getting up there, I am now seriously considering upgrading to an FG F6 or G6ET instead.

I know the note is not there in the 6's, but when you are looking at 25% less fuel, that adds up to a lot of coin over several years!

Sacreligious I know.........

I have a little Laser that I use as a daily vehicle, the XR8 only comes out on weekend's or trips away, so it doesn't really effect me much yet but in saying that, it does still hurt to fill it up and see it go so quick.

i chose "I am not Concerned about the Price of Fuel & would Keep my V8"

that said, my V8 is currently my daily driver but its getting a little expensive to run.

i am buying a 4cyl soon (subaru outback) which will be my daily drive and the Fairlane will be the weekender
