The pilot of the crashed jet also owned a few other warbirds including two mig 15's that were up until the last couple of months were lawn ornaments at Bathurst airport, not sure where they are now hopefully getting looked after.

Sure theres alot of "cheap" warbirds, but not many "cheap" airworthy ones. especially ex military. They are usually worn out & need lots & lots of money (like 100's of thousands of dollars thrown at them all of the time) to keep them flying. A classic example is the one that crashed in Bathurst, it was a worn out airframe.

Just the thing for cutting laps of the Reichstag back in the early 40's.

Opps the Mig-15 crash was near canberra and back in 1996.
Worn airframes, like worn out cars can be kept airworthy for a long time, but sometimes certain areas cant be inspected unless the aircraft is pulled apart completely, like a wing box section or wing spar.

Believe it or not, but at the end of the war my old man went for a ride in one of these beast with a few US solideirs, he was 5 years old and talked about it until the day he died......

Obviously some things stay in your mind forever.

Can't afford a Mig, so I just collect the special anniversary cold war one Rouble coins. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a card carrying member of the Communist Party (not that there's anything wrong with that) - I just keep them as a reminder of living in the eighties with a clock showing 3 minutes away from total nuclear annihilation.

if we knew the complete history of any of our cars when purchasing used......would it make a difference.....I guess it would.......or would it???

mafia car???........druggys car?......murderers car?........would we buy it still......would the story add or detract from it's appeal? where would the "line" be drawn

if it was an immaculate, low milage possibly rare vehicle, would it be enough to deter the purchase.....after all the vehicle is simply an assembly of various components and cannot possibly play a role in its history

almost worth a poll!
