agreed

it is not looking good with Holden getting rid of their design engineers unfortunately the writing is on the wall we will not see an aussie designed and built car here in the not to distant future

Quite different to the Ford situation where they have actually been taking on more design engineers for Fords global engineering.

Holden Commodore as we have seen it, wont exist in a few years. Nor local engineering by Holden, except for maybe tweeking cars designed elsewhere.
Yah hard for even the staunchest of Holden supporters to deny there's an end coming for the locally built commodore if they are letting go their design staff.

Sad days are coming.

End of an era is coming that's for sure mate and it is very, very sad, no question about it.

The answer to your question is that I believe people will take one of three options, and to be honest I'm undecided on which :-

1. Reserve their high performance FPV / HSV for special occasion and weekend use only and buy a cheap daily to avoid putting miles on their special car thereby significantly extending its lifespan.

2. Just keep driving it as usual and update with another brand when it suits them.

3. React to this landmark change in the market, AKA spitting the dummy, and buy something else sooner rather than later, (see my thread on the Jaguar XFR where around 75% of poeple would either sign up no questions asked if they had access to one at a fair price and could afford it, or compare it to their high powered Australian performance car).

Huge change coming in the motoring landscape in Australasia...it just won't be the same...

Good riddance. Dole out the government money they received most recently, give it to all the workers they ****** over, and shut up shop once and for all.

Some of you guys just don't seem to get it...If Holden fail, Ford will close even earlier than would otherwise be the case. I would have thought it's pretty obvious that's a lose-lose for everyone...

I can tell you right now mate, the Falcon will not make it to 2016, regardless of what happens to Holden in the meantime.

Economic conditions are a LOT worse than the media is reporting and it will continue to get worse at an expontential rate.

We can't blame Ford or Holden for what they are doing in order to survive in todays marketplace... what's happening is part of a much larger agenda which I won't go into here.

.
Where is this "not making it" crap coming from, the 2014 falcon is happening. Its been paid for, the upgrades are done, there are still employees who still have jobs.

When the last falcon actually rolls down the line you can cheer...

And mine is probably my last one too but there's other people who might want the opportunity to buy one of the last Australian made performance cars so who wins if they close down early...nobody.

Why beat up on Holden for trying to make their business as viable as possible ?

There is a tooling manager going overseas to sign off on a couple of million dollars worth of new dies who may disagree, but alas, I am sure you know best.........

Maybe it might just get a better reception than the last Fairlane to roll off the line.
