Pull that cam posistiobn sensor out from where the dissy usually sits.. Check that the role pin hasnt fallen out, also check the gear isnt broken on it, also if the HEX drive to the oil pump is twisted then you have a problem

This might be a long shot but it happened on a cross flow once and in desperation I kept putting oil in the top end by hand and walah the journal cleared it self and was as good as gold again, The engine was still going good when I sold the car Like I said a Long shot but hey it worked and saved me a sh** load of time and money. :Reverend:

can that happen if we never took it out in the first place?
how does this effect the oil pump?

also, the car was running perfectly (idle etc) would this happen if what u said was broken? etc?

Well they are hard to get out if you want to reuse it. Sledgie+crowbar got one out of an EF block i had easy as pie.

the hex drive on the inside of the dizzy shaft is what runs the oil pump. the cam sensor is a replacement for the dizzy, and so has the same hex drive as the oil pump still runs off the dizzy (BA redesigned this). if your timing has ****ed up, it could have bent shattered or even been the cause of your little mishap.. but finding out will be the tricky part.

apparently they can run without this sensor.. not sure to what extent.

when we changed the timing gears, the shaft itself seemed to move ok.
the gear itself looked undamaged so it should be fine :P

that seems risky, what if that was the cause of the first melt down?

then surely it woulnd't have run so well when we started it up last week.
will take off sump and see whats goin on there...
if it looks perfect, then it'll be checked out.
