If you go and it's nothing, you have wasted time.
If you don't go and it is something, you may have wasted the rest of your life.

My mum died from Heart condition at 50, and her mum died early from the same thing (Cardiomyopathy).

My wife is a HR/OH&S manager for a multinational...I can do anything in our relationship except shift work ...thats how I know about the statistics.

I do believe (this would take a bit of time to confirm) that Unions tried quite a few years ago to get rid of rotating shifts, they knew the data, but members didnt want to lose the penalty rates.

Anyway...heres a bit of reading on the subject. Sorry I didn't post raw statistics here in the thread, they are all in the documents & referenced in the studies.

It has been a known fact for years that working undesiable ours all your life will take an average ten years from your life.

Oh my goodness F, I haven't been on the forums in ages and I log in and see THIS!

Thank goodness you went to your Doctor when you did!

Now stop working so damn hard and take the time to smell the roses, spend some time with your lovely family and enjoy yourself more.

Maybe its time for a family holiday - get away, relax and make some gorgeous memories that will last a lifetime.

Take care of yourself okay!

Cheers, Tori

Hey gtfpv, amazing story to share and I hope you are doing well right now. Must have been a frightening experience. After an experience a year ago I know exactly what you mean when talking about your role.

Anyway, just wanted to send my best wishes to you and if you want any advice with eating healthy feel free to shoot me a message.

update , thanks for the well wishes guys , nice to hear from some of the old regulars too , i'll let you in on a little secret , i'd just had a month off on a holiday before this happened , but i wasnt feeling refreshed when i went back to work , on the 1st feb i planned a get fit again . this happened on the 7th .
i was really worried for 1 week after coming out of hospital , as i felt like my heart had been through so much stress it was tired and beating fast.
after 1 week though i felt better , started walking daily , gave up coffee for breakfast , and started eating 2 bowls of cerial every morning / or breakfast time for me .
i was the real male who'd get up be hungry for a cappacino , then go 6 hours without eating and drinking only diet coke / at a minimal .
so i threw out the coffee and the diet coke because of aspartime , and switched to lemon soft drink , with real sugar , and surprisingly enough , having breakfast made me thirsty for water , so i now drink mild cordial ( just off water for taste) or 50/50 juice water , and lots of it , i find my appetite has come on strong , so i eat 3 full meals a day , i had headaches for another week after this , but now feel great , i'm now running/ mixed walking 1 hour a day , have lost 2.5 kg; i'm going to make the move to cycling soon though ,i can now run 5k per day , eat normally , mild snacking , and have found a new patience - GEE I HOPE IT LASTS !!
JUST remembered the week after this i was so angry my wife couldnt talk to me without me putting her down , i just could not help it , i knew i was very nasty but just did not know why , so that 1st week was very difficult after being given a clear bill of health . the mind is a funny thing .
my pulse was never under 110 bpm in hospital for 2 days , it took a week to come down at home to 80. only the last 3 days has it been down to 70 , and i also discovered green tea a couple of days ago , my pulse came down to below 60 after one of those . so a green tea a day in the evening instead of a beer it is from now on .
i was also drinking 2 beers a day before the episode thinking that was also healthy . now its 2 a week.
i now enjoy work , i avoid arguments and suit myself . i dont pick on others at work and laugh if someone has a go at me , i now know thats not easy to do but , not important .
i guess i have changed my life just after reading this back . i havent banned coffee or alcohol , but i really dont desire them much anymore , same with sugar and chocolate. but hey i still have it but dont crave it .
feeling much fitter , making progress on cardio , and diet , and patience
i am 5'7 weighed 84kgs ( not fat to look at ) down to 81 now , aiming for 75 , i take low dose aspirin daily , have done for years < i highly recommend .
i plan to keep fit , i now look at it as a must for life , hopefully i can let go of a lot of my negative attitudes and just chill work hard play hard and worry less , and enjoy what i do. my days off now i make us do something even if its just a picnic .
