It must be clever marketing that makes people see that cars from Hyundai and Kia are cheaper.

Before I bought my Mondeo I went to the Hyundai and Kia websites and specced up their mid sized offerings to be same as a Mondeo Titanium. It turned out that although the Mondeo was still more expensive there wasn't a huge difference in price. The Koreans do offer a better warranty, however.

I was happy to pay the extra dollars for the Mondeo as I believe it will be the better car to own over the next five years.

Also, I own neither a boat or caravan.

Nikked..There are not many caravans that a Mondeo can tow..allow 300kg for water, gas, on board clothes, food etc and that puts it down to a caravan of 1300kg. No Australian caravan is that light. Australia gets the Adria, Bailey, Eldis and Swift with limited range that a Mondeo can tow,,Yes, I agree it can, but very limited...

I wouldn't tow a 2 tonne van with a Falcon either.

As someone who doesn't tow, this would be a fine replacement for my Falcon.
The base model has more to offer than my G6E in terms of tech, but I must admit I haven't driven one, so I don't know if it'd feel as smooth to drive.
Would love to see a performance model on off though.

and it towed like it was on rails .

I just think its better to be towing with something heavier than the load.

If I can compare the two vehicles I have. The one will less power is the better tow vehicle. In fact its exceptional.

I'm not saying the Falcon is not capable, just that there are better more suited vehicles available.

Fair enough if you have the bigger car in your stable but for those who don't Falcon is good enough to do the job up to a certain point of course. They are a two tonne car when full of fuel. Ranger for example is only a couple of hundred kilos more.
Sedans with their lower centre of gravity tend not to be pulled around as much when a sway happens.

People should use what they are comfortable with when towing heavy loads.

Not saying you should do anything illegal.

There are engineers, aftermarket parts, weight distribution hitches, anti sway bars and the like.

I wouldn't tow with my XR8, it's not setup for it, but an XT with appropriate gear. Yep.

What is worse is someone with a 4wd who thinks they don't need any of the gear above and just hooks up and drives away.

Mondeo Titanium wagons have got to be the best looking car wagons on the road. It would be at the top of my list if I was buying that style wagon.

Looking at this segment (mid/large FWDs) without any badge loyalty, the Mazda 6 wagon wins by a country mile.

I still think its not worth too much investment in the mid sized sedan/wagon segment - they would get a far better return replacing the badges on the Kuga with 'Escape'.

Wheels did a 10 car mid size comparison not long ago. Placings were:

1. Passat
2. Mondeo
3. Commodore (yeah, they had to have it there ...)
4. Superb
5. Optima
6. 508
7. 6
8. Sonata
9. Liberty
10. Camry

On that basis alone I would disagree with you, not to mention that 6 is vastly underpowered compared to the Mondeo, and quite a bit noisier.

G'day , How ironic...Saw this thread this morning on the first of my RDO's while it's bucketing down outside..Last night I saw an ad for the Mondeo Titanium and is the first ad on Mondeo I've seen in a while...
On Mondeo...They need a sporty one to have any hope of selling more than a few in a saturated market..Very boring car outwardly to me..Not eye catching , not particularly quick compared to anything else .
It might have tons of tech compared to Falcon but Falcon it ain't in any genuine respect for us old diehards ..No big torquey six or V8 for a start...
It'll be a few years at least before we have any real idea if it comes close to the reliability of Falcon and it'll never be as capable for[ towing as a Falcon although the station wagon is a good thing to have again.
Geez Ford , If you want to advertise and sell Mondeo , give us something really fun to tempt the palate , something akin to Focus RS .
Okay , okay the days of big gutsy engines are ending for Ford cars in the main but after a six plus decade culture of them , it'll take a lot of convincing for some of us to go a different path with a Blue Oval badge on it..
Cheers Rod..

NX74205..I read that article..their summary : Pros : Refinement, dynamic fluency, practicality, value. Cons : Thirst 11.2l/100km test average (25mpg)(and they reckon the Falcon was uneconomical !!) messy instruments, SYNC2 gllitches. (now has Sync 3) "Not so much behind the eight-ball, then, as ahead of the other eight, the charming, occasionally frustrating, Mondeo Titanium EcoBoost comes tantalisingly close to sinking every mid-sizer," Score 8.0/10. page 92 September Wheels.

SYNC 2 isn't the fastest infotainment system around, but I haven't had any glitches yet. It's also thirstier than I had expected it to be. I also haven't been "frustrated" by my car.

Other than that, I think their findings on the Mondeo are pretty much spot-on.

No glitches with Sync2 in my Mondeo either. It does require a firmer push on the virtual buttons than a mobile phone or tablet touchscreen. But I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing as it may help prevent accidental button pushes.

I don't understand what is frustrating about the Mondeo. I certainly don't fing it so.

I'm really pleased with fuel consumption. Getting 5.9L/100km.

I have mixed opinions on voice command. For some things it us easier and quicker to just push the buttons. However, if you wish to enter s destination into the sat-nav whike driving voice command is very useful. Also, useful for making phone calls.

The system does work well with responding to voice commands. Unlike my old Mazda6 which was hopeless and frustrating as you would have to repeat commands until it understood the command ir you would hive up and pull over to complete the task.

G'day.. I'm glad you're happy with the Mondy..They do look great..The fuel consumption is also really good for a diesel I presume..

I have to say though that FA have to give us more in the future something akin to Focus RS sports models..
Coming from the V8's , Turbo 6's and N/A 6's ..the ecoboost fours will be somewhat underwhelming especially in petrol form..
The 2.0 Ecoboost is a respectable 179 kw but is under that of the N/A 6 by a decent bit and torque is well behind too. Acceleration isn't spectacular and in petrol consumption I believe is not a great deal better in overall day to day driving than the outgoing 6 if a review I watched is correct.
Officially 8.2 to 8.3 L per 100k's to around low 9 Litres in the six... My own Mk1 XR6 averages about 8.9 to 9.2 often on a trip...

Ford have to give us a proper sporty option in Mondeo one day or Focus will be it otherwise..or Mustang for those with serious coin..
All that said , the Mondeo I hope will do well...Enjoy yours..

Cheers Rod...

Go and drive one before & then compare, they will pretty well keep up with a six, there is not much in it.Fuel consumption? Again better than a six by a reasonable amount.I am getting around the low "eight's"(not a average, real time figures.)On a trip I have seen the mid sevens to low sevens..Better balanced & handling vehicle by a mile over the "six".(I have owned quite a few "sixes".) Cheers

Yes. As R12RT said, it's very useful for making phone calls on the run. Don't need to take hands off wheel or eye off the road to change the climate control temperature either. Very useful.

I defy you to drive one and not be impressed. The only thing it lacks is aural pleasure - it won't sound as good as the six. In the Falcon, the 2.0 EcoBoost is marginally quicker than the N/A six. In the Mondeo, it's quicker than my BF 4 speed, which in turn is quicker than your AU.

It ain't no slouch.

The other thing to note is how the EcoBoost produces it torque over an extended band of revs making it feel strong throughout the rev range.
