Well what do you drink? I haven't tried many NZ beers that I dont like, I can drink Lion Red, Speights, DB Bitter, Canterbury Draught but my favorite kiwi beer is Tui. Steinlager is brilliant from an ice bucket on a hot day. |

Another couple I failed to mention in my first post is Blue Tounge & Blow Fly which are both smaller brewers. Blow Fly is made my Brewtopia who also made the excellent Hoffters before they "asked" to stop

Pretty much any Coopers beer but thier Sparkling is the best...
Oh and who could forget the NECTAR OF THE GODS (tm) that is GUINNESS (tm) ! Crownies and VB are alright but not really a fan of them... XXXX is horrid though BTW ive only ever seen Fosters for sale once or twice over here... Never on tap though.

NZ Lager is cheap as anything, comes in a nice big serving, and has a very attractive can. That said, Monteiths is my favourite NZ beer. Delicious. I tend to drink Tui though.

Australians are too smart to drink Fosters, we ship it off to the States where people drink it cause it's imported. I tend to drink Carlton Mid or XXXX gold. I do like James Boag if I can afford it tho.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which way you look at it)... 90% of Australian beer to me tastes like VB - so thats all I buy. Most of the european beers taste the same to me as well and I don't really like it so I stick with VB.
Coopers is about the only beer to me that tastes different - and i'd get that in polite company. Quote:

If we're talking Aussie beer, I like Tooheys Extra Dry. Can't seem to find it on tap though, I don't think they do 'em.
Otherwise I'm partial to Tooheys New or Carlton Draught. My dad and my future father in law drink VB by the barrel-full. I only drink the stuff if there's no other choice (ie: at sporting events where the choice is a $5 VB or a $4 coke) |

Consume 12 Boags premium (the best), then pop over to the next door neighbours and suck down some home brew (tastes like crap) but after 12 boags, you dont really notice and it saves the neighbour of dying early from gut rot from drinking to much of it. Come to think of it, Im doing a community service.

Most of the more popular commercial beers are rubbish, they use techniques to ferment quicker and get more bottles out quicker. The smaller breweries take the time to make the good stuff, anything from Cooper's, Matilda Bay (Redback, Beez Neez, Dogbolter), James Squire Pilsener & Amber Ale, Little Creatures and some of the Boags and Cascade from Tassie
Doesn't come close to the Belgian/Bavarian stuff though. These days stick to homebrew, get the recipe and the ingredienst and brew any style you want for a 3rd of the price |

Coopers Pale Ale just has to be the best beer I've ever tasted. I must own a slice of the brewery by now. Since cruising up here to Cairns I have gotten on to the XXXX Gold , a midstrength that tastes great. I can drink about a slab on a hot day and still walk too! I have only met one beer i really didnt like and thats West End Draught.

Funny thing is, I saw a thing on tv a while ago and they blind folded all these people who thought they knew their beers real well and got them to try all these beers and see if they could identify the one they like. No one could.
I have to admit though Monteiths which is NZ and Haagen are 2 beers I've had recently that were pretty good. |

Is this meant to be a thread about just aussie beer? I don't often drink Aussie beer anymore (life's too short, gotta try new things hehe). So apart from Toohey's New and Crown Lager (somtimes Boag's and Cascade), I'm on the Guinness, Kilkenny, Asahi, Lowenbrau and Corona among others.

Crown is over rated garbage that yuppies sip at cafes because of the shiny gold bottle.
My favourite Oz beer would have to be Tooheys Extra Dry if I am drinking a lot, followed by Coopers Pale Ale if I am only have a few or a meal as well. I did have half a carton of XXXX Gold watching Bathurst and was suprised how nice it was with the added bonus of being able to remember the race because they are not as strong. Beck's would be up there from overseas, for some reason i can just drink them all night and not be hungover the next day. I did once drink Bud when they were $3 all night at a pub and woke up with massive brain tumour headache the next day. I wouldn't even feed that puke to my dog. Miller isn't any better. Labbatt's isn't too bad but I think that is Canadian..? |

My favourites would have to be Hahn Premium, Hahn ICE and Cascade Premium Light.
VB is OK, but eh. Most people I know call it "old man's drink." :

Yeah I'm pretty keen on Monteiths, but it's too expensive for me, I'm poor. I have to agree on Monteiths Summer, I had a box last year and it was really good.

Another vote for Coopers Pale here. Unfortunately XR7, i doubt you'll ever find it on tap but if you see a stubbie grab one. Dont be alarmed by the chunks in the bottom... it's brewed in the bottle.
