Whats very scary is from all the bands listed i have an album from almost every one of them (bar a few).

With regards to broadening my horisions, don't worry My CD collection isnt all dark and heavy, over 1/2 of it is pre 1985, it also contains significant quantities of classical and prog rock music however, rap, techno, hip hop and R+B to name a few WONT find its way in, on the simple principal its not music ;)

Cheers for the suggestions all.

That is where you are wrong Selekta. What I suggest is Walkie flies up, spends a weekend with you, cruises Canberra in the EA, shares your tunes.

I will guarantee when he get back home he will cherish what he has and the music he listens to now!!!

I'd suggest getting into some funk, and the good stuff with various sounds. Anything from rage against the machine, to red hot chilli peppers, to tower of power. All have some really "grooving" music, but than, i'm a drummer and funk appeals to me more then it does to others.....

There no need to be embarrassed about owning the Anthony Calea album.

Same here... i got sick of listening to nothing but metal and rock, so i tried a few new things.. eminem, 50cent, hilltop hoods and scribe have found their way into my music collection, however most of what i listen to si still the old classics and all the good new stuff.. 102.3mixfm is a great radio station.

EDIT:
Has anyone mentioned Jamiroquai?

lol that new eminem song "*** like that" is so funny. Scribe is awesome. I got the 50 cent "Get rich or die trying" album. Got to have Dre 2001 aswell. RnB is probably my favourite genre if i had to pick anything.

Open mind is always good with music.

Nora Jones and Missy Higgins are 2 people id like to smack the upside of the head with a mic stand. Cant stand that dreary hazy voice !

Yeah I suggest anything here too, Metal is the best music ever and anything else isn't classified as music

By the way, the EA has no stereo at the moment :

Okay, worst rock band ever.

I agree with your second paragraph, I really enjoy the earlier Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Blood Sugar Sex Magic was their best in my opinion, and went severely downhill from there). I'm a drummer too, which is probably why that sort of groovy, funky music appeals to me.

Oh that was one of the BEST movies! And the soundtrack is brilliant, I love the music, and every time I hear a song from it I think of bits of the movie and chuckle... e

PS: Am really enjoying a band called Thievery Corporation, they are a chillout group and I got to know them from the Zach Braff movie, Garden State. Try them out, might tame the anger that most of you appear to need to fire up when listening to death metal/thrash.

Joe Satriani is pretty good - the "Surfing With The Alien" album especially.

From an interview he did:

I see you started playing guitar at 14, a relatively old age. Did you play any other instrument before that? Why did you start so late?

I was a drummer from age 9 through 11. I was a bit frustrated with not feeling a natural ability to progress further. So, I took some time away and then decided to play guitar the day Jimi Hendrix died.

EchoBrain's self titled album is also very good. Despite the name, they're more acoustic based rock kinda stuff, very easy to listen to.
