Some of us 'old people' manage to get in and out of low 2 door cars ok (not a Ford)
My wife complains though

Came across this Stang awhile back outside the chippy, thing that struck me the most was the size of the thing, not saying there to big/to small etc etc just saying i was blown away by its size, doesnt exactly dwarf the GTP but just i never realized just how big they are. That aside i reckon there simply stunning and who knows...one day with a bit of luck.

The Mustang would have to be one of the best looking cars on the market.

What has the new model done to the used values of older privately imported ones?

I am hoping it kills the Tickford converted ones...prices still way to high on them and I want a red one!

Sure does

Side-on it's short and low just like a coupe should be.

Yes...I have the same problem at work with the Celica in the narrow "meets Australian standards" parking spaces they've freshly painted for us. And a Celica isn't a big wide car...but it does have long doors.

Now imagine clambering out of a Mustang in that position...

Anyone betting on panel beaters being kept busy touching up paint on the edges of Mustang doors by people used to much smaller two doors...?

Put that in as a hazard or near miss in a SHEM, I think you know what I mean ;)

I saw a red convertible on narellan rd narellan on Thursday.

My head almost turned right round to get a look. Those clear rear lights really stood out. Very wide looking car.

Great question, I have no answer, only to say each generation of Mustang has some sort of heritage and nostalgia to be respected.

I had a drive of a red convertible and everyone's head nearly spun off to get a look at it. It was like driving a Ferrari. Absolutely stunning looking car, especially from the back.

I don't understand why people would think the Mustang is a big car.
I drove the previous model in the states and they are not big at all compared to the Falcon. The 2015 wheel base is 12cm, nearly 5 inches shorter than a FG and 4784mm compared to 4955mm for the FG.
Mustang is wider overall probably because of the Australian spec mirrors

Fully agree, when my family members get behind the wheel, I just ask them to relax, just drive the car like you would with the Falcon, just steer the car around corners, roundabouts & drive thru's like you would with the Falcon, the wheels are roughly in the same place (wheel base track width), the off putting thing compared to a Falcon is the longer bonnet on the current Mustang.

I know for sure if I was fortunate enough to be in that market it be Mustang for me even though I've had many, many Falcons before
Did have a 73 Mach 1 but it was more Falcon coupe than Mustang

I rented a last-gen V6 auto mustang in the US in December 2013, didn't think I'd like it much but after about 700 miles I was sad to give it back! I thought it felt big but not too big. Smaller and a bit more agile than a Falcon, but still a significant size. Tiny boot (well, boot opening) and rear seat. Was a great drive even with the slushbox, 300bhp was enough to have some fun, and it was an awesome cruiser. The whole time I was driving it I was thinking if this is what a rental spec Mustang is like, maybe a performance Falcon would be a good car to own. Within 3 weeks I'd come back home and placed an order for a new F6.

I was getting fuel in Greacemere last a fortnight ago and we were at the bowser together, when he left, I thought for sure it was a 6, sounded nothing like an 8 at idle, even as he was heading up the road. I was scratching my head trying to work out why did it have a GT badge on the back

They are a nice looking car, but will they become too common? Like all the 86s and BRZs running around.

I hope so... I'd rather see heaps of mustangs and 86s on the road than camrys and corollas. And maybe then I could afford one, of either one.

We can only hope. The commoner the better.

Volume is what keeps a car popular with the most important customer: the beancounters at head office.
There are enthusiasts who seem to deliberately keep it expensive, exclusive, and very limited in number so they can proudly strut in their Mustang, basking in the fawning attention of people who only see one rarely, hopefully not being exposed to the horror of eventually seeing Mustangs everywhere, being used by ordinary people...oh the shame!

I look forward to seeing them in big numbers being used for all sorts of purposes everywhere you go. If I get my sums right on the lease and get one, it won't be getting pampered and hidden in the shed for an occasional drive...it will be getting driven to work and parked out in the sun on days I don't take the bike, and used the exact same was we use our Celica...as a second car, to be used to head off to do some shopping or a day up town, to go away for a holiday or a trip where we don't need the space of the Triton, etc.

Yep they are meant to be used. Being a Ford I would have no issues taking it up fire trails and crossing creeks like I do with my current cars.

Does it have a tow rating in Australia?

You should have seen the rough bush places and sandy tracks we used to take our lowered TE Cortina Rally Pack going out fishing and crabbing...they'd make a modern polished fourbie owner think twice...

I saw the last models when we were over there towing trailers and a couple with campers. I think I remember seeing a "towing pack" on the "Build your Mustang" Australian website.

Copied and paste from owners handbook;
TOWING A TRAILER
WARNING
Your vehicle is not approved for
trailer towing. Never tow a trailer with
your vehicle.

You would also think the Australian version of the Mustang would have a bulbar option in the accessories too

Also for those who didn't know, there is no spare tyre, The car comes with goo and an air compressor (also roadside assist), there is a $1157 option for a space saver spare, http://www.ford.com.au/cars/mustang/...91249133789737 this is for EcoBoost model only
