Sure, there’s a need for things like P plates but demerit points and loss of licence for such a trivial offence beggars belief. And I couldn’t give a stuff about what any of the do-gooders here say, it’s a trivial offence that does not warrant a penalty such as demerit points. I guess that I’m lucky that I’m alive. When I was growing up, we didn’t have 50, 40 zones, an abundance of divided roads, speed cameras, red-light cameras, reduced demerit points for P platers, double demerit weekends in some states and about a hundred other things that I couldn’t be stuffed writing down. How did I survive?

I think it's ridiculous that this even attracts demerit points. Hell I got done 25km/h over and it was 3 points and $213 5 years ago for comparison.
When I was on my P plates I had those plate holders in my first car and used fuse wire to keep them in. Never lost any. In my second car I had them in the windows and no one gave a crap. |

Why people deliberately don't display plates is beyond me. Not saying thats what you did, because obviously it wasn't your fault, but I've got so many mates that do it with the excuse of 'oh, I won't be pulled over as often' which is crap. I've had my license for 3 and a bit years and I've been pulled over once for a blown headlight. No speeding fines, no nothing. Good luck with your case mate, common sense would let you keep you license, but as we all know, common sense often evades the justice system.

this story made me think about my mate who got pulled up one night.there was two police officers one went round the back of the car and threw his p plate under the car and the other one kept him busy with a breath test and then booked him for no p plate.
little did they know we were sitting in a park across the road and seen the whole thing.it was a discusting act and resulted in my mate loosing his licence. i used the daggy p plate holders and always carried spares just incase ,after all you only have 4 points to play with and police are also aware of this. especially in a small country town. |

The position and stupid laws that are placed on "P" plate drivers is beyond me. I'm not all that old either. I'm in my 30's!
Back in the day when I got my licence, you could talk on a phone in your car, hell we even had things called "Car Phones" it was a phone in your car FFS! If you wanted to go for a night out on the **** with a group of mates you orginised a DD (designated driver), or caught a taxi. None of this crap "you can only have one passenger!" On your learners "IF" you went along the Hume, you could do 110kph and not be a road hazzard doing 80kph! Talk about cotton wool!!! I wish I could go on but sadly it would end up in a rant! To the OP, fight it if you like or cop it sweet. If you are going to fight it, make sure you are well prepared. Get any info, photos, statements of business closeures on the day. I do fear though it will come down to police statement "When I pulled over the "P (Evil kills little kittens) Plater" they had no "P" plate showing", it will be a case of guilty untill proven innocent! Cheers

Back when I was at school in yr 11 and 12 most people drove to school. The school was surrounded by cars parked all day with p plates. Some afternoons you would come out and almost every car was missing it's p plates. I would carry at least 10 spare plates at all times. Wasted so much plastic. P plates are the biggest waste of time. They are only used by other p platers so they know to drag race you or drive like a ******** around you. And i gues they help the government with revenue raising. |

Yellow vestiva wins! Look after the p plates as if they were worth the money they will cost u.
Secure your plates better, keep spares in the car and go dust off the old Huffy in the shed |

Its not hard to remove the plates whenever you leave the vehicle...tedious yes...hard? No. Take em off and put em back on next time.
And yes, you have lost your licence. |

Sorry im not too sure about that one. I dont understand why u lost three points when each plate is worth only one point? You could string it out though...you wont lose your points until you pay the fine if things havent changed in the last 6 years...

But the most frustrating part of this your going to have greatly increased insurance premiums just because you didn't display your P plates, seriously what a joke! I cant believe that you lose points over this when you don't lose any for having an unregistered and uninsured vehicle! |

Here in WA L and P plates are rarely displayed on the outside of the car. I put my L plates on the windscreen and back windows, both easy to see, can't be stolen or damaged, and can't weather anywhere as much.
Only downside is that since I'm an L plater, I have to take mine down everytime I come home, incase one of my parents are going out when I can't go so they don't have to bother taking them down. They stop being as sticky, and dont stick as well if they're cold. |

Expect a letter shortly after you have paid the fine. As i have previously said, if you are due for your greens soon DO NOT pay the fine until then.

does VIC have the 1 point option
here in QLD when you pay(admit guilt) they send you a letter giving you a choice of keeping your licence but with just 1 point for 12 months or have your licence suspended for 3 months, most choose the 1 point option, the down side is that if you lose that 1 point your licence is suspended for 6 months, unless you go to court and claim hardship(prove that you can lose you livelihood or other major hardship) you can get another 1 point. but lose that and you lose your licence for 1 year. and no you don't have to redo your "L" you just get your licence back(in QLD)

I had a cracked P plate that had fallen behind my number plate on front, which you could still partly see the P. And none on the rear. Yet I lost 3 points? |
