Thanks Bearman that's good info, I thought it would have been ok, I dont want to modify the lip & SS moulding so maybe I will have to go with plan B ( a 265 tyre) or just lower the front end.

Bearman I will be using the existing 8" Borg Warner diff will that still mean rubbing issues if the car is fitted with 295's & lowered at the rear?

I have purchased my wheels 15 x 10 & 15 x 8 Performance Challengers

And it looks like I may have a 9" LSD disc brake rear end for it, formerly from a ZH Fairlane - is that going to be the same width as the 8" Borg Warner diff currently in the coupe?

If I run say a 265 tyre rather than 295 tyre with the 9" will I avoid the rubbing issues? What if the car is lowered (only an inch or two) with a 265 tyre, will that cause issues with rubbing?

If there is enough meat on them where they drilled the holes you should be able to machine the centers down a quarter inch or so. That way you will be able to run 295s.
Take it to a shop that does rim repairs and they should be able to tell you if it can be done.

Be careful you may still have rubbing on the Left qtr. The diff is usually offset 1/4" to the left in a falcon. Make plenty of measurements before you buy tyres. Most tyre manufacturers have tyre side wall widths when mounted on their web sites. 265 or 275 wide tyres are the safe bet if you have SS moulds

Hi All

I am looking at putting some 17x10's on the back of my coupe due needing larger rims to suit bigger brakes.

Could you please post pictures of your 17's and tell me what width/profile tyres you have.

Dont get me wrong I really love the way a set of 295/50x15's on a 15x10 rim
fill out the rears but I also like to be able to stop.

So any and all pics would be appreciated.

Hey guy's, looking for some wheel & tire advice.. I'm looking at some 17" wheels for the Coupe & my options for the rear are 17x9.5 with 5.5" back space or a *17x10.5 with 6" back space does anyone know if either will fit? I've seen a post on here with someone who had 10.5" wheels but the back space was only 5" from memory..

Hi

Not sure about 10.5's but most of the guys with 10 inch wide have a 5 inch backspace. That is allowing for the standard diff and not rolling the guard lips.

I am considering a set of 17 x 10.5's also but I am at least a year away, Can you please let me know how you go.

Yeah, I'm not sure... But I'm deleting the rear springs & installing a multi link coil over setup in the rear.. So I may have room...

The wheels are ordered now, so I'll find out & let you all know.. Also I'll be fitting fully floating axles to the rear, so if needed, I could look at altering the diff length rather than use spacers.. Stay tuned to my build thread for all these answers & more

May I ask what made you decide to go for full floaters?

I would have like to go that way but its just not in the budget.

700HP engine & 10.5" rims with big tires will put a lot of stress on the axles, just looking for strength really

Hi Claytopia, My comment referred to the post above yours by DaveD XB. Yes, a 5 inch backspace is ideal on a coupe with 10 inch rims and std width diff.
I'm running 17x10.5 inches at the rear with leaf springs, 315/35 tyres and have heaps of room inside and out. My diff is a bit narrower than std because American Racing bought out Coddington and effed up my order even after I confirmed measurements 4 times. After grenading my original diff at Heathcote a bit over 3 years ago I went 35 spline and full floater which in this state [SA] means I can get my car engineered with rims wider than 10 inch. I will be putting 335/35/17 tyres on my car when it gets back on the road next year and don't envisage having any clearance issues.

HI GTB 351, ahhh no worries. So what backspacing do you have on the 10.5's?

Thanks for the Info mate... what brand of tyres are you running? I was thinking that I would run 315's too & I'd be interested in knowing what you run & if you're happy with them... thanks

If you guys do your measurements right you can fit 15x12s yes 15x12s with 345 Pirellis under yes under your guards.
Proof yes because I have done it.

Gday. I've just bought my first coupe and had to bring it to the engineers as its unlicensed with a modded engine.
The main thing they picked on was the wheels as its currently running:
front: 15x8" with 225x60
rear: 15x10" with 275x60


Apparently this combo has increased the track by 50-60mm over standard which is illegal over here in WA (max allowed is +25mm).
So I've got to get a new set of rims & tyres before I can get it licensed.
Given the fact that its fairly modified, I want to minimise the amount of attention-getting things on the car and wide tyres are highly visible on the rear of a coupe.

It seems like everyone on here is going for 15x10 on the rear but I can't go bigger than 15x9" as the stock was 15x7.
My question is what is the offset for 15x8 and 15x9 wheels on the rear of a coupe?
I'd prefer not to go for the stock globe wheels as I'm not a huge fan, so I'm open to suggestions

Why don't you wack a set of stockies on just to get the registration then put the 15x 10's back on

You can get US Racing mags from Tempe Tyres in NSW in 15x7, 15x8 and 15x9. A really good old skool cool full polish kidney bean alloy wheel. With the 15x8 and 15x9 you could probably get away with running your existing tyres or perhaps get some 265/50x15 tyres for the rear.

Its interesting you can legally go up to 9" wide in WA. Here in Vic 8" is the limit (ie 1" wider than the widest available option rim from new - 15x7 Globes).

I gave serious thought to putting these on my coupe.

It's not that we can go up to 9" wide, the law states +30% over original.
As the stocks are 7", 30% increase of that is close enough to 9".

Had a look on the Tempe Tyres website and they don't list US Racing as a brand. Found another couple of places that list them in Aus.
Anyone dealt with Wheelworx or Ozzy tyres before?

Being a Cobra coupe, it already attracts a fair bit off attention and with a twin-turbo Boss 351, I don't want the police to have any extra ammo to sticker it

After reading Darkslayers post I decided to go and speak to one of the authorised vehicle inspectors in town and this is what he told me. ( I am in W.A.)

As long as the following conditions are met you are fine.

You cannot increase the track by more than 25mm (the measurement from centre to centre of the tyres)
You cannot increase the rolling diameter by more than 50mm
You cannot decrease the rolling diameter by more than 26mm
The tyres cannot contact the body at any time including full lock to lock.

So... does anyone know what fitting a set of 15x10 with a 5 inch back space do to the track of a coupe?

On mine with the 15x10 and 275x60, it works out to around +75mm total over stock track.
I believe that rolling diameter was also too big but only just. I'm going from memory of what the engineer said so I could be mistaken on that.
They don't stick out though and I don't get any scrubbing either.

Based on Claytopia's post you may get away with this because he talks about centre to Centre not total track width and with "0" offset on the rear under these conditions the track doesn't change........ Just an observation!

I should have specified that measurement was centre to centre.
Either way, I've managed to source a set of stock globes so I'm just going to get them restored and sell the other rims.
