See post 3917, the architect admitted they made a mistake and from the 1980's on they simply purchased existing houses and refitted them for public housing. They also figured that the surrounding community was more likely to support single families doing it tough dispersed rather than 600 families all concentrated in a ghetto.
It was based on the UK public housing model, maximum floor space for minimal money....usually sited near manufacturing localities for the low socio-economic jobs.

Going back into lockdown is inevitable I think. Just hope they limit it to melbourne, and not drag all the covid free towns outside the capital with it. This is strictly a Melbourne problem.

Are you suggesting that because all HD areas didn't see high infection rates that it isn't a driver ?

There are many factors, but I think there is strong evidence that HD living is one. Look at distributions within countries and it's nearly always the densely populated areas that have the highest rates, at least initially.

But the overwhelming factor in NSW and VIC was bureaucratic/political incompetence. The broad settings were reasonable given the information to hand, but the details were spectacularly mishandled. From what we saw in the inquiry NSW health failed utterly and incredibly handling the cruise ship, while Victoria were equally incredible handling the quarantine.

Who wants to bet no one is sacked ?

Boss I think they will do the whole state. Reason why is school hols, Melbourne has just gone on holiday throughout the whole state.
191 cases today, confirmed by ABC - delayed media announcement, I think something big will be said pretty soon

87 new cases for Australia (mostly in Victoria) and 2 deaths so CMR rises to 1.235% and active cases rise to 1,060 (12.3%). It should be noted that the 6 cases attributed to SA yesterday were actually WA. Victoria is also already at 197 new cases thus far today and has set a new high for active cases with 645, surpassing the 622 recorded back on March 31st. It should be noted before the interstate rivalry starts again that this is still well below the NSW peak of 1,577 back in April and only about half the rate per 100k of population.

1 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.434% and active cases rise to 22.

The UK recorded 352 new cases and 16 deaths yesterday so the CMR drops to 15.48%.

Just over 54k new cases in the USA yesterday and 283 deaths sees CMR down to 4.434% and active cases down to 52.4% but the raw numbers are rising. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
The USA passed 3M cases;
Libya (71), Uzbekistan (342), Venezuela (419), Algeria (463), Ghana (992) and Panama (1,185 today, 1,166 yesterday)recorded new daily highs, those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

We were almost caught by the decision to close the VIC/NSW border earlier than originally planned for those living in the Greater Melbourne area as that closure took effect at midnight last night whereas for the rest of Victoria, the closure takes place from midnight tonight.

We had someone who was planning to travel from Melbourne to Sydney organised to transport something for a friend of theirs today but instead I drove up this morning and met them in Wodonga even though I could have crossed the border being outside the GMA. The 6 hour notice yesterday caused a bit of rapid planning and a little more time would have been nice.

I know it's easy to point fingers but something is nqr about how this has rebounded so badly.

With the lockdown over for most of you, how did you enjoy it?

You can measure your... interests... against those of the following suburbs in the Love Honey lockdown hall of fame. (Coppers in Perth must be feeling pretty good about now...)

Yep, and just keep an eye locally for the next couple of weeks as of the holiday travel, but this move could be very good to preserve the regions, their people and their hospital capacity.

Nothing is quite right about it.

The greater level of fear and panic compared to the real/actual mortality rate that doesn't add up in my opinion. Not compared to other diseases WITH a vaccine available.

It's hard to point a finger at any one area.

And that's not all. About a week ago, another virus with pandemic potential nicknamed "G4" discovered in China. Linked to swine flu.

Yes, all the locals are keeping their distance from Out of Towner's as we have right from the start.

You missed the point. Of course high density is a factor, Hong Kong overcame this by having a 99% compliance with mask wearing. If they managed to do it why couldn't other places? They didn't even have to wait for their gov to tell them what to do, they worked it out for themselves.

This 'Victorian virus' needs a name. I think I shall call it... COVIC-20.

It'll probably spread Australia wide, and all other states will blame Victoria. When the truth of the matter is, they are probably in a similar situation - but did not test their people as much as Victoria has been doing. Easier to blame someone else.

Going to very interesting when borders reopen.

Tassie people are basically living as normal now as basically no risk of getting infected. Pubs are packed, no-one is adhering to distancing etc.

Would just need a NZ like idiotic border stuff up and the whole thing goes out the window.

What a cluster****. Even with the border closing and restrictions imposed again there is a good chance that it has already been spreading elsewhere.

Apparently ACT still going ahead with reducing restrictions on Friday.

The next 2 weeks or so will be interesting.

Kinda makes the previous stage 3 lockdown pain all a waste as we scramble to keep the numbers down again. People need to understand that we are in a control phase and it needs to be maintained until a vaccine. Easing restrictions seemed to be a license for everyone to go about their normal business with a lessened sense of safety. I just hope all the other states learn to manage their restriction strategy better than we did.

I’m off to find toilet paper now.... seems the moron hoard mentality is alive and well again. @)(;:!ck

Oh...and the water droplets suddenly travel up to 8m now...so the 1.5-2m distancing is also BS
