Default Sales man

Last night I popped the bonnet of the LTD (to help with motivation). Anyway I went inside the house to do some electrical work when the doorbell rings.

This is the conversation

Anyway a guy trying to sell me Foxtel was, as he said "very interested in cars".

This was out conversation.
Him 'Nice car mate, is it a six or eight?
Me '8'
Him 'Has it got a turbo'
Me 'Na mate supercharger'
Him 'Is that like a chip'
Me 'Na mate it is a belt driven compressor and forcess air into the engine'
Him 'OK, where is it?'
(Is her serious????)
I point it out.
He counts the leads on the dizzy.
Him 'Why do you have 9 leads?'
Me 'one goes to the coil'
He tells me he he is building a 300 with a turbo.

I say ' Great, thanks anyway.'

WTF????

Old sales trick, show an interest in the potential customers interests, then pitch the sale, and taylor it to the potential customers interests.

I guess it must work sometimes, or else they wouldn't bother, but still, it would be a lot more effective if they had a clue to begin with, lol

Should have messed with his mind and feed him dud questions...

Like:
you running methane injection with your turbo?
You running a belt to the turbo to help reduce turbo lag?
What rear wing are you running to help keep it on the road?
How much checker plate are you installing in the car?

Fair enough he was trying to make a sale. It's one thing to relate to a custom and it's another to make no sence at all.

Dont be too harsh on the poor guy.

He was trained to start a conversation with you based on some sort of "shared" interest so that you would like him more and buy his products.

Back in the days when i used to do door-to-door stuff, it worked for me 50% of the time.

im waiting for the day i can tell a turbo fan that three port bug catchers(that you see at the drags) are like that coz they sit ontop three cylinder engines with big turbos.

thats why they sound so rough, coz they're 3 cylinders and its uneven.

maybe he does have an interest in cars? and just isnt familiar with that setup, would have been much more worthwhile giving him a quick lesson rather than ridiculing him.

hell, when i started out with my car i didnt know anything, and there was nothing worse than asking a question of the mechanic and getting laughed at rather than taught anything.
