Question Part for 4sp BA auto trans

Hi

Wasn't sure where to post this.

I need a mini circuit board that sits under the gear shifter THAT ACTUALLY WORKS PROPERLY. (see picture)

I've had it changed twice with second hand parts and the shifting is still having issues, although they are different issues with each one

Are there any new ones available anywhere or does anyone supply these after they have been tested to work properly?

Many Thanks

What's the problem? Someone may be able to point you in a direction.

They are a very simple device. The magnet on the shifter hasn't fallen off has it?

Check on the availability of Part No. BA 7L400 A listed as WIRING ASSY - TRANSMISSION, 6 PIN (From 01/07/2002 to 30/09/2005)

Or Part No. BAF 7L400 B listed as WIRING ASSY - TRANSMISSION, 8 PIN (From 01/10/2005)

Probably a good idea to verify these numbers using your VIN at the time of enquiry

Could just buy the components on the board from Jaycar and replace them?

Just looks like some common resistors, transistors and a possible zener diode, be lucky to cost you $10 in bits and a bit of time with a soldering iron

They're hall effect sensors not transistors. But just as easily sourced and replaced as any of the other parts in there.

Which just made me realise that maybe they should all be standing straight like the UP sensor and not bent back like the other 2. There is a magnet in the side of the shifter that needs to be reasonably close to these sensors to activate them.

If the problem is that its not responding to movement of the shifter then maybe check the clearance between the arm with the magnet and sensors and see if they need to be bent back into place.

And also make sure the magnet is place as I previously suggested.

This might give you some ideas for testing the PC board: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDyr9tGsbuQ

I agree you would expect the the two hall effect sensors to have the same orientation.

Thanks everyone. Very helpful info.

Original = manual shifting would not work
Replacement 1 = car occasionally stuck in 3rd while dash display flickered N and R
Replacement 2 = manual will not up shift

Regards, Paul

That sounds like something different and not to do with that PCB. Specially the stuck in 3rd while the display flashed between N and R. Stuck in 3rd sounds like limp mode.

Does the gear indicator in the cluster always match what position the shifter is in? Does it change to P when you push it over into manual mode? Or does it always stay stuck on D?

The shifter position sensor is on the passenger side of the auto. If the wire between that sensor and PCM breaks, which does happen, the cluster will always day D and the manual shift wont work.

If the sensor itself plays up it can report the wrong position of the shifter and transmission to the PCM. The PCM then tells the cluster what gear to display. So flicking back and forth between N and R could be traced back to a problem with the range sensor on the auto.

Do you have a scantool or OBD2 reader and maybe Forscan? Just wondering if the PCM has logged any error codes.
