Default '71 XY Ford Falcon Wagon - What Fuel?

I was out of the country the last few years... get back and want to run my XY and find you can't get Super petrol any more.

Get lots of advice from guys on what fuel to use, this, that and the other plus all kinds of additives.

Anyone in this forum can perhaps give me some authoritative advice? Tell me what to put in it and the reasons why?

Until I researched it tonight I had no idea it was so important. Apparently the lead in Super prevented my valves burning out or something equally bad!!

I had been planning to just chug around using Premium Unleaded but it seems that's not a good idea.

regards,

ab

Just run a lead substitute, you add it to the tank when you fill up, Most servos sell it.

^^^ Exactly, Flashlube seems to be about the best on the market these days.

Typically the done thing is to run the cars on premium unleaded (95 or 98 octane, nearly all servos sell premium now), with a lead additive such as Flashlube (which can also be bought from servos).

If you're planning to keep the car for a while, perhaps it's an idea to get the head/s rebuilt with hardened valve seats (if possible), and run it on straight PULP (or regular if you retard the timing for it, but that'll hurt performance and economy).
