5spd Transmission Oil

Can someone tell me what oil to use, and how to change the oil in my AUIII XR8 5SPD ute please. Or a link somewhere that show how to do it.

For the Borg Warner T5 - 4L of TQ95 automatic transmission oil plus 500mL Transmax-Z manual gearbox additive.
Drain the old oil through the bung on the bottom of the gearbox, refit it, and then pump the new oil in through the bung plug halfway up the driver's side until it overflows. Done

You can use a $20 oil pump from Supercrap etc, or a funnel, a mate, and a length of garden hose.

im using Transmax Z. no addative. it goes alright.

Transmax Z, you need about 2L or so from memory and a small hand pump will do the job. On the driver's side of the gearbox you will see 2 plugs that have allen key heads on them, undo the bottom one to drain and then refit, and undo the top one to refill. Check your capacity as it won't reach the hole before it is full so don't use that as your reference point.

Easy job to do but make sure you use the right oil first time.

Best not to use TQ95 in the T5 gearbox. Use only Dex III or equivalent (Transmax Z etc) if you're going to use ATF. For extended gear life in more heavily loaded circumstances, use a manual gear oil as recommended on most oil companies websites. Manual gear oil will slightly increase shift times.

TQ95 uses friction modifiers which will negatively affect the synchro behaviour- shifts will take even longer than if using gear oil and you'll see no gear life benefits.

I discussed this with my engineering manager just a couple of weeks ago for my XR8. He was an engineering manager at BTR when they specced these T5 boxes for the AU and recommended to Ford they use manual gear oil.
