I'd love to see any photos of old Ford or similar bonnet ornaments.
What has peaked my curiosity is this. Many moons ago whilst sorting through some of his junk, my Dad and I came across a particular bonnet ornament. It was in two pieces, top & bottom. It was shaped like an angular "m", ie what appeared to be a body and two swept back wings. A bit like this: Only much more angular and less detailed, and IIRC the central body was much bigger. At the time, after some deliberation, we decided it must be a "Falcon." However, with my rekindled interest in classic Falcons, for the life of me I can't place it. I've also come to realise that many older cars featured similar bird or plane inspired ornaments. Hence would love to just see some photos. Maybe even spot the one and solve the mystery.

When I was young they were everywhere and you could easily buy a wide range of aftermarket ornaments that had nothing to do with OEM gear.
A tradition that fell out of fashion many years ago. I used to have a few in my garage that I don’t know what ever happen to them, thrown out I guess. Now they’ll never come back into vogue because of the pedestrian safety concerns they pose. I’d be interested to see some photos as well. |
