Hey all!
I'm a little low on power steering fluid on my AUII XR6, should i just top it up or flush it then top it up with new fluid. If so whats the best way to flush it out?? (The fluid is under a year old as ford had to re-seal my pump under warranty) |

If you had your pump re-sealed less then a year ago, i would be very cautious - top it up - and if it goes down again any time soon, get your pump resealed again. Just like brakes, power steering is a sealed unit, therefore, in theory, you shouldn't lose any fluids (under normal conditions).
So top 'er up, and watch your fluid levels - if you warranty is about to run out - advise Ford of this potential problem, and if it is what you think it is, they will fix it as long as they know about it before the warranty expires.

cool thanks for the input. Would it be wise to mix oils or drain it out by taking the high pressure hose off???

i too am trying to work out how do drain the fluid from the power steering - rack and all. The problem with pulling the high pressure hose off is that it only drains the pump , not the rack...there must be another drain plug on the rack somewhere...

well there kinds is! umm two hoses that connect into the rack, which are pressure hoses, that should do the trick. Had a look under the car today.

in my bible it just says to pull the pressure hose of the pump resevoir.,.nothing about draining from the rack itself... i wouldn't have a clue as i get an Automatics place to service my rack and tranny every 50 000km's..
