Default I suspect its the torque converter...

Hey guys, got a problem with the old XR6, im pretty certain its the torque converter, or i could be wrong.
A couple of days ago i noticed that when i slow/come to a stop or accelerate from a standstill i would get a bit of shuddering/hesitation from the car, it wasnt too bad so didnt think much of it. Now when i have the car in gear with my foot on the brake, im getting some squeeling from around the transmission, it goes away when i put it in park or neutral, and also in gear it goes away once ive picked up speed while driving. Im 85 percent sure i may need a new torque converter, or could it be something else?

Yep sounds like the bearing is gone . Next up is to start eating find off the turbine & stater once they collide . This happened in my soarer on Xmas eve .

Had to replace the convertor as it grinded hard metal on metal sound . Lucky I shut it off ASAP and no metal was found in the trans or cooler lines !

If I may ask how many k's has your car got on it, just trying to compare yours to mine, it has 210000 k's on it still running well.

Just hit 173000 k's, at about 160000 k's I installed a trans cooler and had a transmission flush and service done. i bought the car with about 150000 k's 5 years ago.

Does anyone have a How To, for replacing the torque converter?
