Default loss of power after chip being fitted

Well guys i decided to fit a Chiptorque chip into the AU a few weeks back anyways ive done a couple of dyno runs also i thought the chip gives you a 5-8kw gain not in my case but the car is going back to looked at and hopefully fixed.

1*Standard form VCT-168kw 4-12-2004 114rwkw-457nm mdx dyno
2*SS induction-redline filter-catback 2.5-BA i6 intake-125rwkw mdx dyno
3*SS induction-redline filter-catback 2.5-BA i6 intake-133.8rwkw Redcliffe dyno
4*SS induction-redline filter-catback 2.5-Advance headers-3" pigpipe-132.6rwkw-Sureflow exhausts 7-11-05
5*SS induction-redline filter-catback 2.5-Advance headers-3" pigpipe-chiptorque chip-125.4rwkw 19-12-05

Now i ask myself the question okies dynos are a pain in the *** but on the road the car feels very strong and i believe i did have at least 140+ at the rear but until i get the issue rectified i have to be patient :

5-8kw seems small. I got 22rwkw added from a Unichip and pod filter (VCT AU2).

If seat of the pants tells you it's better then you may be alright.

Get it onto Joe's dyno (he has an mdx from memory) and get another run.

Jonbays 139 rwkws auto 15.4 1/4 mile
stiddy 137rwkws manual 14.9
yobboford 137 rwks(i think)manual 14.9
me 131 rwkws auto 15.1

If these cars genuinely put out that power ,and all of there power curves are better than mine then why the differences? You would think that if dynos are so good then they should give you an indication of real life times.

Ill tell you why....BECAUSE DYNOS SUCK!!!

Times dont lie mate.

I do hope these are all done on the same dyno with the same settings... otherwise they are not compariable.

As for power... Stav has finally worked it out.. run it on the track, time will tell the truth.

It took me some time to come around but yes I agree get it timed. Go to a whole day thing and bring all of the add ons to test. Advance the cam a tad..see how it goes.Retard the cam a bit..see how it goes.Change the intake...see how it goes. What better tuning is there than seeing your terminal speed go up and your et improve? A dyno sheet might make us go faster if its weight is removed and into a garbage bin!!

As has been said....don't put too much faith in dynos, they suck :(

The important thing is, how does the car feel?

I think dyno's are very important for the tuner so he can see where he is going with the power a torque curves. But at the end of the day it is how quick my car is that counts to me. It is mainly the people who don't race that are bent on telling everyone how much rwkw they have got.
I am very happy with my 13.1's in the heat (for a week or two anyway) and I don't have a so called decent dyno sheet to back it up LoL.

And no one would car if you did. You could have a dyno saying 50rwkw and no one would really care because the timeslip wins.. it is real and everyone knows it cant be fudged.

Times down the 1/4 don't tell the whole story, your mph does, too many variables affect the ET, mph shows the power to weight.

Well the last couple of weeks the car has being having its moments either bad fuel or the settings are wrong as the car still seams to get a flat spot now and then on take off and the occansional cough splutter syndrome.

now to make things worse i got sacked this morning so no job no money to improve things at present.

Life is full of such a wonderful bunch of C....oops beetles

Correct the terminal speed is a better indicator of the power to weight ratio of the car.

did you get a pretuned one and fit it yourself or did you get a chiptorque dealer to fit it and tune it on the dyno?

NIk i got a Chiptorque dealer to fit it and i think it was pre-set to coinside with the previous stuff that was on the car as for dyno i doubt it got on one that day as they had a bloody yuppie heap on there.

WTF??? My unichip is sitting awaiting a cam, I already have exhaust & intake mods done, I'll be happy with 10! Who tuned it, that is a great increase.

Lets do this with TS instead of ET and you see what I mean its an accurate predictor power to weight not power on its own.

Jonbays 139 rwkws AU auto fairmont wagon 1/4 mile TS 90.24mph
stiddy 137rwkws AU manual XR6 sedan 1/4 mile TS 92.73mph
yobboford 137 rwks EB manual wagon 1/4 mile TS 90.86mph
Useless 131 rwkws AU auto futura wagon 1/4 mile TS 90.10mph

All very predictable even from the dyno numbers

The tune may not be the problem? Did it go bad immediatly after the tune or was it OK for a while...?

Maybe bad MAP sensor, bad plugs, bad leads, old airfilter, bad O2 sensor affecting fuel trims, and so on

don't stress to much then mate ,get a decent tuner to whack it on the dyno and do a custom tune .preprogramed chips are usualy way of tune and are sh$t .
chiptorque do a good unit and i regret not getting one from the start, real time tune is the way to go .

So what do they call a custom or performance tune on a stock modern mtr mtr?

Plugs, leads, air filter, oil & oil filter & sting you over $300. RIP OFF from some mech's.

Bang for buck is a decent exhaust system on a stock mtr. Most mags I have read including overseas mention the average increase of about 12rwk with performance chips on stock mtrs. To get 20rwk plus would have to have a after market computer fitted

Performance increase depends on how bad the tune is to start with.If the air fuel ratios/ignition are perfect an aftermarket computer is a waste of time.

Well done Stav ! sorry to go off topic but i havent been on the forums for awhile .

A good time to for the heavy wagon , I didnt think you would pull a 15.1, I thought you would be around the 15.5 mark.
Infact I didnt think you were going down the track fullstop...lol..
So now you know exactly where you are at , nice one!

gary.
