Question Travel time Adelaide Bathurst or Melbourne Bathurst

Ok, I am plotting my trip to Bathurst for the 2013 GT Nationals. Due to transport restrictions (railway too rough between Adelaide & Sydney) the cars will either go to Adelaide (rail) or trucked to Melbourne. I have been quoted 11 hours Melbourne to Bathurst? Been along time since I drove to Melbourne or Adelaide. The cars will be full of luggage & have 2 munchkins aboard, so max of 110 klm/ph will be in order. Any ideas or realistic travel times?

whereis.com says roughly 820km / 8hrs, 45 min.

Most direct route is inland it seems. Perhaps aim for 10-11 hrs with stops etc.

Hmm, 4 hours of the "Wiggles" refuel, refood, 4 more hours of the "Wiggles" looks like Melbourne wins. Thanks guys.

Adelaide to Wagga along the Sturt/Newell Highways is around 5 hours I think, havent done it myself but most people allow that long at least, maybe a bit more if you have kids and need to stop a bit more often.

From Wagga to Bathurst is about 3 hours again give or take break time.

Go to the Bathurst 1000 each year in convoy, with a caravan in the group.
Normally, leave one day, stay West Wyalong overnight then hit Bathurst late morning the next day.
One way back, can do it in one hit - if you leave Bathurst by about 7:30, can be back in Adelaide by about 9:30pm or so.

The above time for Melb-Bathurst is about right for driving time - add your own stop/rest/refuel times on top.

The way I went was up the Hume to Coolac (just past Gundagai & dog on tuckerbox) then via Cootamundra, Young & Cowra. Roads were quite good. Another trip (south) I continued on to Wagga and then Albury on the Olympic Way for refuelling purposes as there weren't any Shell servo's on the Hume between Goulburn and Albury at the time (now shows one in Gundagai), which was a bit slower.

I'd expect there will have been more Hume Hwy duplications in NSW finished by then, probably only the Holbrook bypass left so perhaps taking the Hume a bit further might make things slightly quicker but I don't think it would change much.

I'm confused (Shutup Rob!!) You say that the cars will go to either Adders or on a Truck to Melb. So.....

1..Where are you starting from.
2.. luggage and Kids ain't allowed to ride in cars on Trucks
3.. Most NSW country roads are only 100kmh.

Anyway..Adders - Wagga appx 10hrs
Melb - Wagga 4 1/2 hrs.
Wagga - Bathurst about 3hrs.

Oh dear, yes, you are confused. Travel time will dictate where the the cars are consigned to. Adelaide is a straightforward rail journey. Container from Perth to Adelaide. Perth to Melbourne is by truck utilising a somewhat similar crate system the Vesa cars use. No I won't put the kids in the car for the rail or truck journey. We have these things called aeroplanes now, they reduce the tyranny of distance very well. Your input to my question is somewhat questionable itself. Thank You

EL....did u manage to sort out your travel plans. i am interested as i am thinking of pulling the pin on taking a car to the nationals as its getting complex and pricey. One thing that i saw with the monaro nationals that was held in WA this year is that they approached CEVA and priced up a DISCOUNTED transport sheet to and from WA from all major cities in oz and posted the discounted bookings up on their web page (but evryone had to leave on certain dates to get the discounts). would have been nice for these nats.
