Default EA prototype

I took a few pics of an EA prototype wagon at the Discovery Centre in Geelong I thought I'd post up, this wagon is one of 109 prototype cars, and has a few features that never made it into production - it has 3 rows of seats (7 seater) and a watts link coil spring rear end the same as sedans. First pic you don't notice much about it, but look at the next 2. The seat setup is similar to a Peugeot 504 & 505 wagon, I had heard they originally planned this for the EA wagon so it was good to see. I don't know why it didn't go ahead, it would have been a 1988 version of the Territory (this was just before the better egg-shaped Tarago came out).

another interesting note is that it still has the original Eagle GA Plus tyres on from the looks of it. These tyres are no longer available.. Are they from new? :P

The car is owned by Ford (yes from new, they built it after all). Don't forget that S pack and Fairmont Ghias came with 15" rims standard, there is no reason why a prototype would not have them.

This is the info sheet that was with the car - note it has a 4sp auto. The series 1 EAs had the 3 speed of course, but that was only because the 4sp was running late, it certainly was under development/durability testing, so the info on the sheet is not a mistake.

The second row seat would be split and the passenger side bit would fold forward. As I said it looked to be identical in setup to the Peugeot wagons so the 3rd row footwell is in front of the axle meaning you actually get proper leg and foot room. Getting into those is as easy as the back seat of any 3 door hatchback.

I can answer that question eb as my ea station wagon has 8 seats....the back seats have a half seat fold down, you just fold that down and they all climb in but with the seven seats the seats don't go all the way across the back so you can hope in through the boot.

My parent's EBII is also an 8 seater (3 in the back). The middle row folds down, and to get in we just fold down the 40% of the middle row on the left.
