i got my car back on tuesday after extractors and 2.5" exhaust. The car flies and its like a new car. Just wonderning whats the rough estimate of KW at the flywheel and rear wheels are at now? Pickup on the car is awesome.
Could it beat on a standing start a XY 302 winsdor? |

If it's the non-VCT, then you probably have between 110 and 115 rwkw (compared to 100-105 standard). If it's VCT, maybe around 119rwkw (noting that the VCT autos tend to put out around 120rwkw standard)

I pulled 122.4 & 123 rwkw on a AU1 VCT ghia at the AU dyno day early this year stock except fitted with pacemaker PH4499 redback 2.5 and stock rear muffler. Plus the A/Filter was a little dirty & plugs or leads looked as with they were breaking down at high revs.
Fitted a pod in box with custom intake pipe new plugs & a hot dog muffler on the rear now & the car fells more responsive. So should pull a few more rwkw's buickman |

I've recently had fitted a set of Wildcat extractors with long secondaries to my AUIII XL I6 manual cab chassis ute, resulting in the cat being moved back to the rear of the cab instead of right behind the engine, this flows then through a semi baffled 2.5" custom mild steel system. This has resulted in significant midrange accelleration between 2-3500rpm. Fuel economy has improved from 11.9l/100km to 10.15l/100km. I am yet to dyno my girl at this stage; need to find someone in Gunnedah that can do it first which I doubt very much.

Since putting pacies and 2 1/2 system to my fairlane vct l get a lot more top end power over stock. Havent dyno'd either but definatly wouldnt have lost any peak power. Fuel economy has stayed around the same though at around 10 lt/ 100 kays

James - no I fitted the 4499s. I believe the 4480s are better for the VCT, but the only headers that are KNOWN to provide an increase are the JMM race series. PM Casper for further info, as he has done lots of reasearch into headers for the VCT.
For non-VCT engines, any headers are better than stock manifolds. I have 4499s on the wagon, and the pickup compared to standard (especially from 2000rpm) is noticeable. It revs very freely and quickly to the red line.

James - before and after dynos on the same day are the only way to be sure. Make sure they do at least 2 runs each time though - preferably 3, as the dyno reading generally increases after the first run (don't know why, they just do) and decreases after the third (heat etc). So if they only do one, and fit extractors and then do a second run, and you get a small increase, you won't know if that's because of the extractors, or just because it's the second run.

I'm not interested in more power or the car being any louder than standard, but would like to improve the fuel economy on my AU3 Futura. Is there any point fitting extractors?

Baboon - Pacemakers, Jim Mock and Hurricane Headers (from Liverpool exhaust) all have good reputations. Lukey & HM Headers will still work, but don't seem to be as popular or have the same results as the others. You can get pacemaker 4499s off ebay for about $350 or so - I wouldn't recommend the pacemaker 4480s (or any other Tri-Y headers) for you, as with the gas mixer, you have an intake restriction, so you want as much low down torque as possible. No point having big bore exhaust pipes to get rid of gasses that you just can't get in because of the intake restriction (i hope that makes sense!).

Fuel economy? What is this fuel economy that people speak of? Never experianced that. I assume that an tacho that lives in the red zone is probably the reason though. :P
