Default Aerial

I have an AUII Fairmont with Tickford gas.
The owners manual mentions an aerial switch, but my car has the gas switch in this location. What is the purpose of this switch? Isn't the aerial supposed to be automatic?
Which brings me to my real question - my aerial is up permanently, I can't get it to go down. It won't even go down when I push on it.

If it's anything like my Barge the aerial switch is for putting the aerial part or all the way up.
But if it's not moving at all, then it's broke

I assume that if the aerial goes up automatically you could use this to lower it a bit?
I guess I'll have to get under the guard and pull the aerial out.
