Default Ford AU 1 Radio to Panasonic CD Player conversion.

Hi all. Just bought a '98 model AU and it has the stock radio still in there. We are able to wire the CD Player up to the car without a problem, but are wondering if and how it were possible to connect the steering wheel volume and track controls up to the CD Player.

Any ideas? All help is appreciated.

Mate, it can't be done without purchasing some aftermarket gear...I think it's called The CAT or something like that...give it a google or see a car audio store...

Maybe if a moderator moved this thread to AU Falcon area it would get more attention...

No no need to move it nutter, the information you gave is 100% correct.

The piece of equipment you need is a CAT09. Quite pricy though.

EDIT- Seeing is it is in the pub, maybe it should be moved.

Thanks for clearing that one up guys.

Here is another one for you;

Will the AU 2 CD Player connect straight up to the AU 1 plugs and work straight away albeit not have the extra controls on the AU 1 steering wheel?

Thanks.

A bit late I know but yes, the AU II/III one will fit into the AU1 fascia ( a little cutting required) and the connectors plug straight in and work but, no remote volume :(

Hi. Depends on what you call easy, the new radio/cd must be remote capable ( I R or cable on back ) and when your putting in the head unit the cat 10 just hooks up with acc and earth for its power the wire that goes to the steering wheel for a signal and either a hard wire to rear of head unit or if infra red you run a wire up the pillar and out through the interior light hole and just have a infra red led poking out between the lamp and the headlining. Comes with full instructions and switch programing which is so easy compared to some that you need to push buttons and step to next function etc etc etc damm start again. Cheers MD

There is a cheaper option, a bit more fiddly to program though:

http://www.pac-audio.com/SWI/

Can be had for $60 delivered from ebay USA
